southsider2k5
QUOTE(Frankensteiner @ Jul 27, 2005 -> 11:40 AM) I don't think Florida will be helping out the Braves. Regardless they could drive up the bidding...
SoxFan1
QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jul 27, 2005 -> 12:41 PM) Regardless they could drive up the bidding... KW is too smart for that. He will not let another team make his guys price go up too much. If he was smart, he'd let Atlanta drive the price way up and then say "f*** you, accept their dumbass trade" hence, Atlanta screws themselves. Dick Allen
QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jul 27, 2005 -> 10:38 AM) Another potential darkhorse in the Burnett derby is Atlanta, they just put Mike Hampton on the DL. I really can't see Florida trading Burnett to Atlanta, but stranger things have happened, I suppose. There's no doubt Florida leaking out info is trying to drive up Burnett's price. Conversely, it wouldn't surprise me KW's interest in Baez and Huff for the some of the same package he supposedly is offering for Burnett may also be a little bit of gamesmanship. It will be interesting how it all plays out, because there are going to be some deals made.

I your case, we would be the Yankees and the Sox would be the BRaves because the Yankees werew the one after him and then we came out of nowhere to snag him. Atlanta is just going to drive up the price.

I don't think giving up Miguel Olivo (hahaha!) and Jeremy Reed is too much for Freddy. That was cheap!
southsideirish71
Well now BRUUUUUCE Levine has changed his story again. Now the Burnett deal might not get done until the weekend. The deal is on hold right now.

I don't think giving up Miguel Olivo (hahaha!) and Jeremy Reed is too much for Freddy. That was cheap! Today it is cheap. Go back and read what people had to say about the deal this time last year. Hindsite is always 20-20. To look at the deal today is completely different than looking at it as it was made, and is a tad ignorant IMO. This is what was being said. And also people were saying Freddy pitched in a big park and had bad away splits.
Kalapse
QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Jul 27, 2005 -> 11:41 AM) f*** Burnett. If the Marlins Gm want to be a little b**** about it and try to have everything his way, KW should make him kiss his ass. Go get Schmidt KW! You sound like a fool. Right now the Marlins are making a push for the playoffs, they're 4.5 out of the WC and 5.5 out of the division. Last year they kept Pavano all the way through the season to make a playoff run when they could have easily traded him and got something for him instead of losing him to Free agency in the offseason. To call Larry Beinfest a little b**** for trying to get what HE wants and not giving in and taking a lesser package for a player that he doesn't even have to trade is just stupid. He's in the position of power right now. Any Burnett deal should/will go through under his terms. Other teams Red Sox/Orioles/Tigers are more desperate to acquire Burnett than the Marlins are to dump him. And you don't like the price tag for Burnett but you think it's a good idea to go after Schmidt? Sabean's going to want more for Schmidt than Beinfest wants for Burnett. That makes NO sense. Beinfest is doing his f***ing job, he's trying to get what he wants for his player or he's not gonna trade him. To say he's acting like a little b**** just shows a lack of intelligence and a lack of maturity.
Tadahito15
From cbssportsline.com's rumor mill: Updated 7/27/05 "The Marlins have told the Red Sox they are not interested in trading A. J. Burnett for right-hander Bronson Arroyo and pitching prospect Anibal Sanchez, says the Palm Beach Post. It now appears the Chicago White Sox were the only serious bidder for Burnett." were=past tense. is AJB not being moved at all now or am i reading too much into it?? Kalapse
They've been saying all along that they weren't gonna move Burnett and now that they're starting to win it might be in their best interest to keep him. I say we're better off.

TheKillerB's
From USA TODAY - The White Sox agreed to trade top pitching prospect Brandon McCarthy and left-handed reliever Damaso Marte to the Marlins for starter A.J. Burnett and third baseman Mike Lowell, if the Marlins agreed to pay half of Lowell's remaining $18 million through 2007. The Marlins had not as of late Monday. The White Sox wanted a 72-hour window to sign Burnett, who is seeking at least $40 million over four years. If they acquire Burnett, the White Sox are expected to offer him $27 million over three years

3E8
Did Burnett's start today take him off the market? 7 IP, 4 H, 0 ER, 1 BB, 8 SO. Now 3.30 ERA. Contreras with 4.58 ERA. Still think he can't help us? Edited July 30, 2005 by 3E8
