Don't trade relievers for a starting pitcher!

I can't believe the talk of including Marte or Pollite in a trade to acquire Burnett. With our lack of offensive production (especially against quality starters), this team needs the best bullpen possible to shut down every potential rally.

Furthermore, we really don't need another starter (as long as injuries don't hit our staff). We should easily make the playoffs with the lead we have at this point and 3 quality starters is all that's needed come October. With all the off days in the postseason, the team's ace will usually pitch game's 1, 4, and 7 in a series which goes the distance.

I'll take Garland, Garcia, and Buehrle over Burnett or Schmidt anyday (or most other pitchers in the league for that matter).

However, we need the depth in the pen to preserve all these 1 run games we seem to play once we get into inning 7 and beyond.

I could see including one of our relievers in a trade that upgrades our pen (i.e. Wagner) or produces a bat which greatly improves our offense (Overbay, Griffey, Huff, etc.)......but to include it for a starter is a move that's not necessary and could hurt us come October.

i agree. politte should not be moved, unless the deal is really overwhelming. marte i'd be ok with trading cause of his inconsistency and he has had a heavy workload. i agree on the importance of depth in the pen. i just hope they aren't interested in baez.

I don't even want Marte traded. We all know how much Ozzie values using a lefty when it's a supposed advantage (an advantage that I believe is often overinflated).....so if Marte's not on the staff, it leaves Walker as the only option to replace him (unless we pick up another team's castoff like Embree who is equally as bad).

Damaso is not the best reliever in the game....but he's still an effective left hander (a very valuable commodity in today's game).

Ozzie has lost a lot of confidence in Marte seeing how he can't throw a f***ing strike to a lefty. Walker would not be called up if we traded Marte, KW would swing another deal and pick up a reliable Lefty (Villone/Eyre). KW is aware that Kevin Walker sucks and is not gonna let him see the light of day during the stretch run.

You do not trade Politte. Period. End of story. Hang up the phone KW. No one has been more dominant out of the pen than him. The fact that he would even be mention makes me pissed. I hope Jayson Stark is full of typical ESPN BS.
