whitesox89
Sorry to start another topic. But these are the guys I want. On Baseball Prospectus Will Carroll thinks we could be getting Jorge Cantu also. Heres some interesting lines on the Sox in regards to these guys Aubrey Huff, who seems destined to be a White Sock. Don't be surprised if Jorge Cantu ends up involved in a deal as well. fathom
The article didn't say Cantu would be in this deal. Just said "a deal". I'd would love to have Huff. He seems to be swinging the bat great these days.
Kalapse
Huff and especially Cantu can not play D on the left side of the field.
rangercal
QUOTE(whitesox89 @ Jul 27, 2005 -> 08:58 PM) Will Carroll thinks we could be getting Jorge Cantu also. Heres a link http://www.baseballprospectus.com/article.php?articleid=4258 NO, read Carefully. Danys Baez is heading somewhere. Right now, the Devil Rays are sitting on a couple offers, including one from Philly. The Phils have offered Ryan Madson to the Rays, hoping that Baez would solidify the bullpen in front of Ugueth Urbina and Billy Wagner. Chuck LaMar's intractability seems to be paying off with offers from the Mets and Marlins also in the inbox. They'll also make a decision on Aubrey Huff, who seems destined to be a White Sock. Don't be surprised if Jorge Cantu ends up involved in a deal as well.

santo=dorf
These past couple of games really made me think of how important defense is in baseball.
Kalapse
QUOTE(rangercal @ Jul 27, 2005 -> 09:02 PM) Are you assuming Huff can't DH like Overbay? I really have no interest in Cantu. Huff however I do like as a DH/1B/LF not to be an everday thirdbaseman. How's that?
fathom
QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Jul 28, 2005 -> 02:05 AM) These past couple of games really made me think of how important defense is in baseball. And that's why we'd be getting Huff to DH primarily, and he could possibly back-up Crede at 3b. He's definitely no worse than Ozuna is. Kalapse
QUOTE(daa84 @ Jul 27, 2005 -> 09:02 PM) obviously, huff is certainly on teh block, overbay is almost certainly not I'm still not convinced that he won't be traded during the season. Talking to Brewers fan they really think it's a possiblity and they know more about their team than I do and more than some guy on ESPN or MLB.com does. How's that? i dont think huff would be a 3b. i think everett would be pretty much the fulltime DH. then i think huff slides into everetts old role in which huff would spell pods, rowand (with pods in center) dye, konerko and maybe crede one day a week. maybe thats too much jockeying around with one player
fathom
Cantu would be one of the best hitters on our team if we got him. The guy has a chance to have a very good offensive career.

I'd be reluctant to ever put him at third. He's worse than Ozuna and Pablo is brutal at 3B. Hell Lou Pinella banned him from playing third last season. No. If you're going to trade for Huff, he will be an everday player. He's better than Everett in everyway offensively just look at what he's done the past couple seasons. Everett would slide back into his old role.

Regardless it's better to have him as an option, then no option, when you put crede's back into the equation. What happens if we lose Crede for a significant amount of time? Do we Start pablo everyday? Edited July 28, 2005 by rangercal

If they do acquire Huff he will be the primary DH because this offense desperately needs a lefthanded power bat and that is why they would be acquiring Huff. Huff would be the DH who could also give Konerko/Crede/Pods a day of rest. This move would also most likely designate Gload for assignment. I will take Crede's mediocre bat and outstanding defense over Cantu any day.

Frank the Tank 35
Cantu would be a great hitter, no doubt. I don't see why Tampa would move him. This is his first full year if I'm not mistaken and can't be signed to a huge deal currently. It just doesn't make sense that Tampa would trade him unless they were OVERWHELMED. Considering they normally ask the moon for their players, we'd be talking the moon, jupiter, and haley's comet for Cantu. As much as I'd like an overhall to our lineup offensively, Cantu just doesn't fit in anywhere anyway.
DBAHO
Because Chuck LaMar is the D-Rays GM, this prob ain't gonna happen. And Lou Piniella would go crazy too.

And Lou Piniella would go crazy too. lou has to know already, besides i dont think if they care if he goes crazy. its inevitable anyways. stark said in his article that everyone is saying that "huff WILL BE traded" ditto baez. we'll see to whom........on a side note, is huff the best bat available on teh market? maybe soriano, but thats arguable, and im not sure if he is on the market. but if we nab him and burnett, like stark suggests, we would get the best hitter and best pitcher. if that aint goin for it i dont know what is
