southsider2k5
Remember when everyone was fawning over Gload and talking about how we had to get him up here? Some of us argued that he wouldn't make that much of a difference because he wouldn't be playing very often, and that could be a problem? Well this is Gload after the game yesterday. "We lost the game because of it," Gload said of his error on Terrence Long's potential double-play grounder. "The ball went though my legs. If he hits it at me right now, I probably catch it. I play once every two weeks and lost us the game." Gload, who was promoted last week from Triple-A Charlotte to take the place of the injured Frank Thomas, made his fourth start at first in place of Paul Konerko. "I don't know if there are a lot of guys in the clubhouse happy with me right now," Gload said. "I cost Garland his 16th win. A couple of guys missed their flights going home for the off day, so you can write whatever you want." I know he is pissed, but I don't like seeing guys who are the 26th man on a 25 man roster complain about playing time. If it wasn't for Frank's injury, he wouldn't be here in the first place. He is lucky to be on this team. It is his job as a bench player to stay fresh by taking grounders in BP if that's what it takes to keep him sharp. But him playing 1B only every couple of weeks is what we need him to do. Konerko is going to be the everyday starter, and if Gload can't handle what we ask of him, by the words out of his very own mouth, then we need to find someone who can. Greg Hibbard
QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jul 28, 2005 -> 08:43 AM) Remember when everyone was fawning over Gload and talking about how we had to get him up here? I saw that quote too, and my initial reaction was the same...but then I thought I was taking it out of context. I now think it was more of a "christ, they put me in once every two weeks and I screw up the one time I'm in....I suck"
OldRetiredGuy
That seems like an odd statement from someone who should be doing everything he can to keep riding airplanes instead of school buses to minor league games. For the best example of how to handle this situation he should review Koch's statements after causing a loss. That guy was about as classy as they come. Shame he had so much practice. LosMediasBlancas
You might be misinterpreting what he meant. He meant in the little time I get into a game I managed to f*** up big time.
KevHead0881
I guess you can interperet it in several ways. But my guess is that he's not complaining about playing time, but rather bashing himself for blowing a game in one of the few opportunities he gets to play. fathom
I think Gload was just trying to say that if you do only play once every 2 weeks, you can't go out there and blow the game for your team. I don't think he meant anything malicious with his quote.

OldRetiredGuy
I can't get any of the Chicago papers down here, any of the other players have a response? That would say a lot about how the remark was meant, and taken. If it was nerves, what's he going to be like in the playoffs?
thedoctor
the remainder of the quote (him talking about guys missing flights, blowing garland's win) leads me to believe that was a more remorseful statement than a complaint.

SSI2K5: You've misinterpreted his sayings. Gload meant, requoted by me, "I only play once every two weeks, already I have cost us a game." Just like saying, "I just started on a job only for a few days, already I have messed up the computer. Gload was just being hard on himself. He certainly did not mean to complain about his playing time.
Milkman delivers
QUOTE(KevHead0881 @ Jul 28, 2005 -> 09:47 AM) I guess you can interperet it in several ways. But my guess is that he's not complaining about playing time, but rather bashing himself for blowing a game in one of the few opportunities he gets to play. That's what I interpreted it as, but it's subjective. I think we make reactions like this on the way we feel about the player. I like Gload, so I assume he was bashing himself. If it was another player, oh, um...let's say Konerko for no reason whatsoever, I would think he meant something bad. I'm sure a lot of people do the same thing, depending on how they already feel about the guy.
Controlled Chaos
Yeah, he meant it as..."I f***in never play and when I do I f*** it up" He stood up and took the heat like a man. I think he was pretty hard on himself after that play.

I'm being sarcastic. I'm also sick of posters posting their opinions on something, or asking a simple question and getting crap about it. /endrant. WHarris1
I'm pretty sure he is not complaining about PT, as others have said. "More like I get my chance to do something and I f*** it up."
