BridgeportHeather
Did my Neal get hurt tonight? Managers don't typically take a starter out in the 5th inning when they've only given up 2 hits and 2 runs.

Rex Hudler
Did my Neal get hurt tonight? Managers don't typically take a starter out in the 5th inning when they've only given up 2 hits and 2 runs. I was listening on the radio when they took him out, Heather. The broadcaster didn't say how many pitches he had thrown, but speculated he might be near 100 after only 5 innings. He does throw a lot of pitches, which is why he hasn't thrown as many innings as you would expect from someone so successful. FWIW, the score in Neal's games have been.... 3-2 (won, 5 IP), 4-1 (won, 5 IP), 4-2 (won, 5 IP), 2-0 (won, 6 IP), 7-1 (no decision, game was 1-1 when he left, 6.2 IP) and 2-1 tonight (loss, 5 IP) So they aren't scoring a lot of runs for him. Couldn't find pitch counts.
