southsider2k5
QUOTE(BDavisFutureHOF @ Jul 29, 2005 -> 12:59 PM) Who ever deemed SS as a power position? Frankly, I think Uribe blows ass -- he is basically an automatic out at the plate -- but he has singlehandidly won us a ton of ballgames this year -- with both his glove and his bat. Doesn't he lead the team in Sac flies? uribe actually is near the top of the AL lead for Sac Flies along with Everett.
BDavisFutureHOF
I was a Yanks game a few years ago where he won it for is with a broken bat bloop single in the bottom of the 9th -- one of the best games I have ever been to -- for a number of different reasons. There was about a 2hr rain delay -- but luckily enough -- we were in a box and were able to keep right on boozin through the delay. After "The Pornstar's" game winning hit we started this really obnoxious drunkin "f*** New York" chant outside the cell and about 100 people or so joined in -- ahhh great times! DMoneyIsMine
everyone says, shingo wasn't gettin it done, good, we got jenks. a. is jenks a good pitcher, and will he hurt the chemistry of this team? the reason the white sox are where they are is because of flawless chemistry, don't forget that. b. was shingo our weakest pitcher, or was it possibly luis or damaso? c. will a.j. burnett hurt the chemisrty of this team, and is he worth having for bmac and damaso? d. don't forget that if the white sox didn't have that flawless chemistry they had at the start of the season, they wouldn't be in first. and is jenks being brought up and replacin shingo and frank goin down, and gload (a good guy? we don't know.) hurtin this team and its flawless chemistry? Kinda, I guess. He looks a lot like Freddy Mercury...when he was alive of course lol. My mom and I went to a game and kept cheering Go "Freddy Mercury" and such - funny part was we figured everyone would think we were nuts, but a fair number of people in our section agreed and joined in the cheering lol. Jenks is a very good pitcher and he will not hurt chemistry. b. Shingo was our weakest pitcher especially when you facter in that our manager had lost all confidence in him to get the job done. c. I don't want Burnett on this team as a 2 month rental. However he is probably worth Damaso and BMac. d. Frank is hurt Gload came up, I don't see how that hurts chemistry, I've never heard a bad thing about gload (and many people do call Thomas a clubhouse cancer :rolly ) Losing Shingo (a bad pitcher) and gaining Jenks (a good pitcher) should not hurt this chemistry. Oh yeah and the reson the Sox are in 1st place is because of great starting pitching, timely hitting, stellar defense and a great bullpen. All credit for success can not go to the fact that the players get along nicely.
Harry Chappas
After reading this I can not understand why this is a bad point? I believe there should be a four/five (Konerko) way platoon to get Ozuna more at-bats. Ozuna should be at second rather than Willie Worthless. Uribe showed last year he can play all three infield postions flawlessly. What exactly has Uribe done to warrant a guaranteed spot????? Upgrading from Valentin was not that hard. Funny how the chemistry suffered with his loss. We lost more games with Valentine's horses*** defense and K's then we won from his clutch hits. DABearSoX
QUOTE(Greg Hibbard @ Jul 29, 2005 -> 04:04 PM) Uribe has a BA of .236 and an OBP of .272....and 11 errors at shortstop, 7th most in the league. Since he's not necessarily stellar defensively, don't you guys think it's time for Pablo to see more tick at SS? Is Uribe's power potential that much more vital over Pablo's speed? I am in no way bashing your posts greg, I like different perspectives, but you gotta stop being so depressed. At least sometimes point out good things about this team, and not just nit picking problems...... Threads: our record against probable 1st round playoff foes Frank...how patient are you willing to be with him Isn't Joe Crede just Jose Valentin Attendance: start of something big or just a fluke Shades of 2000? TaylorStSox
Judging a hitter solely with .OBP is idiotic. This is especially true when the hitter's a free swinger. Is Uribe producing like we expected him to? No. However, he's still more productive than alot of hitters on our team. His RBI's are comparable to Dye and Konerko's, out of the 9 hole. Now, what is the goal of all hitters? To create OR drive in runs. Uribe has excelled at one. If you consider the OBP of the guys that hit ahead of him, his RBI's are almost remarkable. AJ and Crede are both free swingers as well. AJ walks about as much as a horse with a broken leg. Therefore, Uribe's had fewer RBI oppurtunities than most 9 hitters. He leads the team in sacrifice fly's and is second IIRC in sacrifice bunts. That's productivity. Re: Uribe's defense... If you think Uribe is a s***ty fielder, then you don't know s*** about baseball. Give me all the stats you want. I'll tell you how f***ing meaningless they are. Do you even watch the games Mr. Hibbard? Anyone who uses defensive stats is worse than a FOBB. You have to judge defensive ability with your own eyes, not some home made statistic that BA thinks is adequate. Zone rating my ass. Uribe's the best defensive SS we've had since Guillen. He's got excellent range to the hole and adequate range up the middle. The positioning of our MIF is suspect at times, but that's a result of coaching. He's got an excellent arm and has saved 2 games this year, with that arm, in the late innings. Can we upgrade? Of course. We always should be looking to. Honestly, I'd like to see upgrades in alot of areas. Rowand leaves alot to be desired. However, he's good enough that it's not an immediate concern, just like Uribe.
