Trade Rumor?

Ok, so I am just making this up, but how about we offer Koch back to Oakland for Joe Valentine. They can keep Koch and Foulke (of course, we'd have to pay some $$ too).

Valentine only has one save in AAA but he has a 2.57 ERA in 11 appearances and has not walked a batter in his last 6 appearances spanning 8 innings. Only 1 ER and 3 H allowed while striking out 9 in those six appearances.

Not realistic, but its late and I am having random thoughts.

Any other trades possibilities for Koch? Boston perhaps?

I think Koch is fine. He's just hit a very rough patch.

We need more team speed. We're slow as hell and we don't run. I don't think we need to run a lot....but we don't need to play Earl Weaver ball all the time. I'd like to be more than a station to station team.

Someone has to get the fact that baseball is not a 1-man show....some of our guys have forgotten that. They need to realize that if you help the team get the win...then you are as big a hero as the guy who drives in the winning run.

If you wanna make a trade...I'd say it's gotta be a position player. I don't think anyone from the pen needs to go....and no one from the rotation will go. Some guys on the bench have a little value, but nothing important enough to wake the team up. I'd say that if we wanna wake the team up...we trade one of Carlos and Konerko. We trade Carlos....we trade him to Toronto for Shannon Stewart. We trade Konerko....I'd say we trade him to Arizona....and I'd get one of Miguel Batista or John Patterson...and Quinton McCracken. Both of the position players we get can leadoff, and have good speed. If we get Patterson or Batista, it just sweetens the deal and brings in another pitcher. Odds are, we won't have Colon after this year(especially if we don't make any noise in the playoffs) and having either Patterson or Batista help fill out the rotation would be nice to have.

Willie Harris showed some real speed tonight like I haven't seen in a while -

his 1st inning bunt, he flew to first and when Frank hit the ball to short it was not a double play because Harris had exploded for 2nd and essentially stole 2nd - -

but then Cameron took us out of the game...

but at least there was a little highlight...

there was hope was a few minutes...

the only team in know that is desperate for a closer and could afford koch is boston...and id take whover they wanted to give us for him...

cwsox..notice that the mariner's two miscues in this series both came off the bat of harris on grounders??....speed makes guys hurry and causes mistakes..i think teams relax against us because we dont put pressure on them...

my thoughts exactly. Also, when pitchers have to worry about holding runners on, they tend to groove more pitches. Speed is HUGE, and we have NONE.

I really wish we had a guy like Damon or a speedy lead off guy/center fielder and a lot more quickness.  Speed would help a lot.  But, Kenny Williams knows all and gives us the slowest line up in baseball.  He is brilliance personifide.

I think Willie Harris playin center will give us at least one 30 SB threat at the top of the order, as long as he can handle hitting leadoff or in the two hole...if not, we have some speed in the 9 spot i guess. This guy deserves every chance to play CF this year with Rowand sucking and Borchard not yet ready.

has the majority agreed that this trade blows?

if so, i remember a lot of people getting on me, b/c i was vocal against the trade.

I'm not trying to start s*** here, but I seem to recall that a LOT of people here ( not everyone, of course ) were VERY happy with all of KW's moves over the winter. Koch, Colon, Daubach and Loaiza - they were all good moves on paper. Not to everyone, obviously, since someone somewhere must've been upset when even Clayton was let go! :)

Hell, even my guy RPS was asking if KW had become a real GM at long last!! :P Remember THAT, Mike???

Things just haven't worked out....again....as usual.

Optimist says - It's still the first week of May

Pessimist says - The Sox haven't shown me much yet

i had reservations, extreme reservation about the koch trade and i said so.

however the colon trade was a no brainer and getting daubach and loaiza i was and said that i was giving in to what others posted here. b/c i was not too sure about them.

I doubt he can steal 30 bases, batting .211.

I go on record as agreeing 100%. I was leery of the Koch trade (not against it) for two reasons:

1. I wasn't convinced that Koch was any better than Foulke, who I thought was primed to bounce back strong.

2. I didn't like the Valentine for Cotts swap. Note the jury is still out on that one despite how well Cotts has done so far. Cotts still walks too many guys and throws way too many pitches. That will have to change if he wants to be successful at higher levels. Valentine has already proven himself at the level Cotts is now and is having success in AAA. I am not saying that part was a bust, because Cotts has shown the potential to be the real deal.

In all, I still say the jury is still out on this trade. Koch certainly isn't making it look like a winner for the Sox, but I don't think you can give it a final grade yet.

The other moves looked like good ones. Daubach and Loaiza were easy moves because they were given Minor League contracts. There was no risk with them.

If we had a real CF, perhaps Willie could have made this team out of ST at his natural position of 2B instead of having to learn a new fielding position.

WAY TO GO KENNY!!!! :P

If we had a real second baseman, I don't think Willie would have had a chance in hell of making the team. They had already decided Jiminez is the second baseman and we have Graff as the backup infielder. Where would we have put him?

Oh God... Lee in left, Harris in center... I feel the ulser forming already.

I say we pack up Koch and send him somewhere right now while he still has some value. We should pack up Konerko while we're at it. We could get a good number 3 guy for them and maybe even prospect or two.

And call me crazy, but I think Dan Wright should become our closer. He has good stuff, but he kinda tires out in the later innings. I think he could a solid, dominant closer.

You can tell I didn't like Botch, but the other moves are fine, our pitching minus Koch is very good, I don't know why people are so down on Buehrle and Colon? If we ever hit we'll be very tough.

What makes you think he still has any?

Anyone who throws that hard, especially with his past record (it's not great, but still it's a lot of saves), has value.

Yes, but it is fair to say that he has much less value after the way he has pitched the past month than if he had been more effective. If you were an opposing GM, would you pay top dollar in prospects for a demoted closer with an ERA over 7.00? Nope, you'd "take him off the Sox hands" and do them a favor by giving them a decent, not great prospect.
