IlliniKrush
I say we pack up Koch and send him somewhere right now while he still has some value What makes you think he still has any? Anyone who throws that hard, especially with his past record (it's not great, but still it's a lot of saves), has value. Yes, but it is fair to say that he has much less value after the way he has pitched the past month than if he had been more effective. If you were an opposing GM, would you pay top dollar in prospects for a demoted closer with an ERA over 7.00? Nope, you'd "take him off the Sox hands" and do them a favor by giving them a decent, not great prospect. I agree, however you said "what makes you think he has some value", i took that as "any value". Obviously he has less value now, not going to argue against that. I wouldn't trade for Botch right now if I was a GM. Big contract and the only team he's had a save against this year is Detroit. Only way I take him if I'm a GM is in a package deal. I think the Red Sox would take him. And if not the Red Sox...trade he and Konerko to Arizona for some speed and pitching. Take on about $5-7 mill of their contracts though. I know I'd take Batista/Patterson, McCracken....and maybe some others as well. They need some offense....so I'm sure they'd welcome Konerko and take a shot on him. I believe he also lives near Phoenix in the offseason...that'd be great for Konerko as well. I can't remember where Botch lives in the offseason though. And I also agree with whoever said use Wright as closer. I've said Wright could close before and do a great job. He can get it up to 94-95 as it is....that's pretty good heat....as good as Koch's....but then you add in his knuckle-curve and a solid changeup....and he could be a pretty good closer. A rotation of Colon, Buehrle, Batista, Garland, and Loaiza with a bullpen of Wright, Marte, Gordon, White, Wunsch, and Glover....along with possibly a 12th pitcher....and we have a damn good pitching staff. We also need a good manager to go along with that...and Manuel is not that good of a manager.

southsider2k5
Koch is obviously hurting. If this team had an sense he would be put on the DL and let the soreness go out of his arm. I am not sure why we haven't done that, because he is obviously hurting the team right now. Plus we have at least two guys who can close games...
