Whitesoxfan56
I dont know if this was posted yet but i found this on the new york daily news article talking about the manny trade Manny not heading to Mets as Sox end talks BY ADAM RUBIN AND BILL MADDEN DAILY NEWS SPORTS WRITERS HOUSTON - Manny Ramirez may have been pulled from the Red Sox lineup last night, but he isn't headed to Flushing. As the Mets pushed for the completion of a three-team swap that would have landed Ramirez and Tampa Bay's Danys Baez and Julio Lugo, the Red Sox ended the talks, citing "insufficient talent" in return for Ramirez, a baseball executive familiar with the talks said. The remaining scenario that could bring Ramirez to Shea would have the Mets and Red Sox dealing directly with each other before today’s 4 p.m. trading deadline. Earlier in the day, the Devil Rays had insisted that Red Sox shortstop prospect Hanley Ramirez be included in their haul, which, before Boston balked, stood as the deal's lone stumbling block. Devil Rays officials apparently thought they would receive Mets prospects Lastings Milledge and Yusmeiro Petit, along with Red Sox minor leaguers Anibal Sanchez and Kelly Shoppach, but later learned that Milledge would have been shipped to Boston. An executive participating in the talks said all money issues had been resolved. While the Sox chose to sit Ramirez vs. the Twins last night at Fenway for unspecified reasons, Tampa Bay was nearing a deal that would ship Aubrey Huff - one of Boston's primary acquisitions in the Ramirez blockbuster - to the White Sox. Two days of intense talks surrounding the Ramirez deal appeared to have collapsed late Friday, but Fred Wilpon ultimately accepted picking up the entire $64 million owed to the World Series MVP through 2008, the stumbling block that scuttled discussions during the winter meetings between the teams. Absorbing the price tag had been an absolute condition on the part of the Red Sox, who also would have received Mike Cameron and Aaron Heilman. Lugo would have played second base for the Mets. While it is not inconceivable that the Mets would try to revive straight-up trade talks with Boston, Omar Minaya appears to be turning his focus elsewhere. The Mets remain interested in Baez, the Rays' closer, but will have to hustle to put together another deal by today's deadline. They also will be hard-pressed to duplicating the power injection Ramirez would have provided to their lineup. Other available acquisitions could include Pittsburgh closer Jose Mesa and first baseman Daryle Ward. The Rangers appeared near a deal that would ship Soriano to the Twins for a package including Kyle Lohse. Mets insiders had called his acquisition a "super longshot" in recent days anyway. The initial driving force behind the spirited discussions had been Red Sox CEO Larry Lucchino, who had been incensed by Ramirez's recent behavior, from refusing to play last week after Trot Nixon suffered an oblique strain because he needed a day off despite the shortage of outfielders, to his latest annual trade request. Lucchino's willingness to part with Ramirez, the AL's home run and RBI leader entering the weekend, who was booed at Fenway Park on Friday night during each plate appearance, had created a division within the Sox hierarchy. GM Theo Epstein and other front-office personnel were against trading Ramirez, realizing that would be the start of a need to retool the entire team. Pedro Martinez, advocating the acquisition, spoke glowingly of Ramirez, going so far as to tell writers covering the Mets-Astros series that he would help the Mets any time they had difficulty with the shy slugger. There are weeks Martinez speaks with Ramirez three times, with the slugger simply calling him to share a joke, then to pass the phone around the Red Sox clubhouse, to teammates including David Ortiz. At other points, Martinez goes long periods without speaking with Ramirez. Martinez chuckled while revealing that Ramirez's voice mail message is the slugger coughing. However, Martinez laughed off assertions he was a driving force, fueling Ramirez's discontent and desire to leave Boston. "I hope he loosens up. New York is his hometown," Martinez said, noting how Ramirez's wife Juliana has been uncomfortable in Boston and a driving force behind his dissatisfaction there. "Just respect his family." Bubba Philips
QUOTE(beck72 @ Jul 31, 2005 -> 01:05 PM) FWIW, with the addition of Blum, the sox could part with Uribe. I'd be all for keeping Juan as a UTL guy. Yet if it took trading Juan to get Omar, so be it. Juan's recent hot streak could make him more valuable blum doesn't have a lot of ss experience from what I read

But if you put him at 3rd he suddenly forgets how to position and how to catch and throw.

103 mph screwball
Blum has 118 games at short in his career according to yahoo. He has over 400 at 3rd. Between him and Ozuna, they have it covered. That's more stable than Willie being the 3rd option at short.
