That was Ryan Wing, who was lost to the Rangers via rule 5 and then picked back up this year off waivers.  He was supposed to be really good but had an injury early in his minor league campaign similar to Kris Honel.

Or it could have been Gary Majewski, who the Sox traded to the Dodgers, then traded back for him. He then got picked up in the Rule 5 draft and was returned to the Sox when he didn't make Detroit's opening day roster.

He currently has a nice 3.18 ERA in 51 appearances out of the Washington Nationals bullpen.

Its good seeing Maj pitch so well. He's a quality guy and has definately earned it. I always was a fan of his and well Its nice to see he's gotten an opportunity to pitch at the major league level and he's definately responded well to it.

To all the negatives out there, what was your brilliant plan of upgrading, in this dead, shallow market?

KW gets critisized for making big moves, but then takes more for not making one.

Exactly. I have been saying for two weeks with so few sellers and the prices so insane, our best move is to hope that someone decides to sell of at the last minute. That really didn't happen, so we made the best move by not tearing off our nose to spite our face. Making a huge move in the market would have been stupid, and this is futher supported by the fact that NO team made a major move.

It's not like teams like boston, new york went out and made a big splash. NO ONE DID because the sellers were being ridiuclous and there just wasn't enough of them.

KW worked with what he had and upgraded our team.

How did he upgrade the team? Will this guy even see much of any playing time? I assume we will see him play some 1B now that Gload went back down, but geeze did we need him? Ozuna can play the IF, and Gload can play 1B. Gload is probably better then this Blum dude. I don't understand this at all. I do understand the Harris demotion- but i don't understand the Gload demotion. Oh well- i guess too many teams were buyers not sellers this year. And from what i heard- the sellers were all asking for waayyy to much in return.

someone on the bench that can actually play 3b = upgrade.

It also gives us a decent short term starter if the Sox feel they need to give Crede a 15 day DL stint to ready him for the playoffs. Ozuna would have been a disaster.

Good, Ryan Meaux sucks.  He had no chance in this organization with the amount of lefties we have here.

You are right about him not having a chance in this organization but no he does not suck. Good luck Ryan

i like Gload too. he'll be back.

but right now we really need to get this bullpen some rest. you want all these guys overworked and deadarmed by the playoffs? right now we have no true long reliever on this team. vizcaino does it but he has no history of doing it.

we're going to the playoffs. it doesnt matter how bad Adkins will be. what matters is that we get the pen some rest.

also: comparing Gload and Blum is pointless. Sox arent saying Blum is BETTER than Gload.... they're doing this because they have no legit use for Gload. and they REALLY have a need/use for Blum.

Pablo struggles at 3b... the Blum option will really help us with PH and strategizing in late innings.... pinch hitter who can play all the infield positions? this is a good move. he has had at least some consistency as far as getting on base, and thats a little more than i can say for Mr Uribe during some stretches.

To extropolate on Ian's sig quote: Soxtalk seems to be home of the GMs who never make bad trades ever and are totally perfect. Just ask 'em! I guess people need reminding of "My boy Olivo" being called a Hall of Famer from the year previous. f***ing kneejerk reactionaries.

Too many teams saw themselves as contenders and the market was s*** so KW did what he could to upgrade the team. Blum is an asset defensively off the bench and he's currently got a higher OBP than Crede and is just .014 points below Crede in batting average. I'm happy that we got more bench help with a versatile player for a prospect -- and I think Olivo proves that we'll never know how prospects will pan out.

Yes, it'd be nice to get another lefty reliever but the market was s***. No other team made a huge splash unless you consider Matt Lawton the trade that will catapault your team into the playoffs

Christ, if I didn't know better, I would think that the Sox had a white flag sale & weren't 14 games up in the Central right now with the way some of the Chicken Littles are acting.

I think with some of the people here on Soxtalk -- if KW walked on water they'd b****, piss and moan about him not being able to swim.
