Content. Kenny improved the bench but couldn't pull off a blockbuster for a bat because Chuck Lamar is an ass clown. Anyways, nobody else made a huge splash in our league. We're the best team in baseball and I feel very confident in this group to bring home the big prize.

The thing about no one else making a huge splash makes me upset that we didn't improve ourselves even more above the competition rather than stick with what we've got.

But yeah, LaMar's demand was outragous.

Can't blame Kenny here. I would have liked to see a big name added, but the big name simply wasn't worth the price. IMHO, the fact that the Yankees, Red Sox, Twins, Angels and Athletics all failed to improve their teams makes this a good day for us.

I guess I'd feel differently if we weren't up by 13.5 games.

Blame the market, not the GM.

I liked Kenny's only move and I think he did his absolute best to improve the ballclub.

Thoughts?

EDIT: Someone wanna throw a T in "Reaction?"

Thanks! :P

my temper has cooled some, but i was quite upset after the deadline, and i still am. the way i feel is that we are in the best position to win big since probably 1993, maybe even beyond that. we have a good chance of getting homefield throughout the playoffs, the way i feel is that we should load up as much as possible. on the other hand, what has allowed me to cool my temper is the fact that only 1 out of 8 teams in the playoffs still ends up winning it, and even bringing in a guy like huff doesnt guarantee that. duke impressed the last few outings. i realize 100% that burnett wasnt going to happen because he wasnt going to resign. i understand wagner probably wasnt available and that chuck lamarr is a dope. my personal feelings are that we could have made upgrades to the back of the pen. the bullpen, as most pens are, can be exceptional, or can honestly be quite bad. i look at our pen and see 3 guys in politte cotts and hermanson who have been lights out this year, and jenks and marte have done the job. but really, cotts, politte, and hermanson have never been this successful ever, and im just fearful that one or more could fall apart. marte to me, you know hwat you are gonna get. solid work, but not spectacular like a few years ago. jenks is just too unproven. then theres vizcaino and adkins, who well...nobody counts on. i guess i would have liked to have seen the sox go after someone like a scott eyre or a miguel batista to take adkins spot, and in case one of those aforementioned to fall apart, they are there to fill in.

Content. I saw signs that Uribe was coming around in the last week or 2 & when looking at his Aug & Sep of last year I was beginnning to think it's better to stay with him than to acquire Vizquel. Especially Uribe's Sept #'s.

If he repeats those numbers he'll be a hot player going into Oct.

Likewise I did not want to trade Crede. I was not willing to sacrifice any defense for a bat or an arm & I'm glad that didn't happen. Look at tonight's ball game the long hits were held to doubles & several runners were stranded by BAL. Dye, Rowand are a big part of that.

Pods biggest weakness is losing the ball in the sun/lights & those type of hits give Rowand time to bail him out. So I don't think it's a big weakness.

It's just embarrasing to Pods.

The best way to rest Hermy is for the offense to pound out runs. That's what we see now.

I really like the addiition of Blum today. He's a very strong hitter against finesse/ground ball pitchers & right away I thought about the A's & Zito.

He's got surprisingly good numbers vs Schilling & Clement. So he seems to be a guy that helps shore up some serious weaknesses on the offensive side of this WSox team. And the fact he's a UTL guy only adds to his value.

The gamble right now is probably Shingo. If he can find himself again down in Charlotte he has a chance of coming up in Sept & being a major force in the pen. If he can do that then we are pretty solid in the pen for the post season.

In the first round both El Duque & Contra are available in the pen.

In the subsequent rounds Contra is.

That's strength most other teams don't have.

Although spoiled I guess from acquiring Garcia last year and than even Robbie Alomar and Everett(who was much better) the year b4 I expected KW to make a big move.

But after hearing the demanding prices I think KW did the right thing although I still hope we can add a bullpen arm.

My reaction is that some of these teams that are 5 or 6 games out and supposedly still in it are fooling themselves. Battling with 5 other teams for one WC slot is a tough climb. I think deep down they know it, but are really afraid of the bad PR that would come from a white flag sale. From a Sox fan perspective, it woulda been nice for teams to unload about 4 players to us this year. Overall though, I'm not a fan of the 'rent a ring' approach. You should have to dance with the girl you brought to the party

.....so then why exactly didn't KW do more?

I'm not sure.

He just needed to give up enough to fill our greatest needs. We needed another big bat in the lineup, a bullpen arm, and possibly a starting pitcher. Buyer's market, seller's market....doesn't matter....this team is probably going to compile the best regular season and deserved to be stockpiled no matter how many prospects were given up. I would've emptied the f***ing farm for Wagner and Huff.

I don't buy the fact that we got "held up" by teams this year.

There are going to be guys available that will clear waivers. A lot of the teams that think they have a chance will realize they don't in the next few weeks. I still think KW will acquire an impact-type of player , and the asking price will be a lot less. He really doesn't need anyone for the regular season at this point, just for the playoffs. This is the year to go for it. NY and Boston may never be this beatable in the same season for a while.

That is a bold statement.

Let's see what develops.

.........and maybe he was willing to do that, but I read this morning that teams were asking for part of our core, every day players. Everyone who said the demands would soften apparently was wrong. I still get a big kick out of teams asking for 2 guys from our rotation in return for 1.......and that 1 would probably have ended up as our #3 starter. That's just hilarious to me.
