daa84
remember those root for CLE and MIN threads, yeah well they arent winning the wild card this year, so yeah i think we should actually begin rooting for oakland so that they win the division and well end up playing the angels in the first round. oakland is only 1.5 back

Oakland is starting to worry me. I would much rather have them win the division and us not play them instead of what is going on right now with them leading the wildcard. GoodAsGould
Although Oakland has owned us during the reg season the past 4 years I wouldnt mind seeing them in the playoffs... Id rather see twins but we wont see them anyways if they win wildcard.... the prob team that can do very good in the playoffs is Angels... thats the team im scared of. CWSGuy406
Rooting for Oakland to win the West. No way do I want to have to face Harden/Zito in a five game set. I'm perfectly fine going up against Colon/Washburn (or Lackey). And, their lineup is good, but it's not as good as everyone makes it out to be. Guerrero is great. Anderson is good, but he's posting his lowest OPS since 1997 (.750). After that, there's some decent hitters, like Figgins, Molina, Erstad (using 'decent' very loosely with him). Then there's Cabrera (four years, $32 million ) and Finley. Both are overpaid, and Finley seems to be fading fast -- .289 OBP this year. Yeah... I'm perfectly fine facing Anahiem in the first round. ESPN is all over Anahiem -- that's all I hear, "Angels are the best in the AL". They're 1.5 up on Oakland. Sheesh, you think they'd be undefeated for how much they're slobbered over... Big Hurtin
Only the White Sox. Aren't you familiar with the saying "Be careful what you wish for"?

The Angels have been scuffling lately, but they've got that "it" factor - I would rather face them in a 7-game series than a 5-game. Don't count them out - like the Sox, they do the little things very well. Colon, Lackey, and Escobar (who should be back by then) will be tough, even against our big 3. EvilJester99
I am worried about the Sox having to face Oak in the playoffs...everyone is well aware of how awful the Sox have played against Oak.

GoodAsGould
The only bad thing about Oakland is they seem to have Buehrle's number... Although on the same token Garland has been offely good vs them.... I have a 5 game series played out vs them in my head. Game 1: Buehrle vs Zito 5-2 A's Game 2: Garland vs Harden 3-2 Sox Game 3: Garcia vs Haren 4-1 Sox Game 4: El Duque vs Zito/Blanton... this game i cant predict havent seen Duque in postseason and dont know if A's choose to go back to Zito or risk it with Blanton if Game 5: Buehrle vs Zito/Harden... I see Buehrle giving it all he has and fetching home a white sox winner. I guess its a little dangerous to make predictions so early but im convinced the A's are for real and I think Angels will be able to hold the division...Btw I had Garcia starting game 3 because that will be on the road where he is his best. SHAFTR
Part of me hopes they play the Yankees in the first round. That way my happiness/anger (depending on the result) can be amplified.
Rooftop Shots
QUOTE(EvilJester99 @ Aug 1, 2005 -> 01:41 AM) I am worried about the Sox having to face Oak in the playoffs...everyone is well aware of how awful the Sox have played against Oak. My hope would be that if we did play Oakland, that we would be able to beat them. Just as Boston had Yanks on their backs for so long, and finally got past them, it would be nice to get that Oakland monkey off of our backs. If we did, the adrenalin and momentum would highly be in our favor for the next round. Look what it did for Boston last year! I still believe that if we faced and beat Oakland, the pennant race would highly be in our favor.
SoxFanInDallas
QUOTE(daa84 @ Jul 31, 2005 -> 10:45 PM) remember those root for CLE and MIN threads, yeah well they arent winning the wild card this year, so yeah i think we should actually begin rooting for oakland so that they win the division and well end up playing the angels in the first round. oakland is only 1.5 back I am not rooting for anyone but the White Sox. If I root for Oakland, or The Los Angelos Angels of Aneheim, or the Yanks, I keep getting this gut feeling that I will get what I wished for, but it won't be good. So, I would rather the chips fall and just play who we have to play.
