maggsmaggs
With Franklin's steroid suspension, people (like Rotoworld) are speculating that top prospect Felix Hernandez will start now in his place. When was Ryan Franklin's next start? This friday against the White Sox. So, now we might be the first team in the majors to face the best pitching prospect since Gooden. Any thoughts? Chisoxfn
They faced him in spring and did pretty good against him. He has an unbelieavable arm though.

Kalapse
I heard he's going to pitch thursday but this could have been reported before the suspension. That would mean we'd miss him by 1 day and he'd face the Tigers in Detroit.
maggsmaggs
Scary part about him is the Mariners are not letting use another potential 70-80 rated pitch, his slider.

Kalapse
QUOTE(Brian @ Aug 2, 2005 -> 01:40 PM) Though Mark Prior was the most touted pitcher since Gooden? Prior isn't nearly as touted as Hernandez.

Queen Prawn
I'll be at Friday's game. If that guy is pitching, I hope the Sox will be ready.
WHarris1
Does anyone else hope we face him? Maybe with a 1 game lead in the division we would want to avoid him but with a sizeable lead I would love to face an arm like Felix.
Kalapse
QUOTE(GBlum## @ Aug 2, 2005 -> 02:25 PM) Does anyone else hope we face him? Maybe with a 1 game lead in the division we would want to avoid him but with a sizeable lead I would love to face an arm like Felix. He could very well shut us down, we have enough problems with mediocre pitchers facing us for teh first time, imagine us going up against a guy like Hernandez with an arm like that. I'd much rather watch him pitch against the Tigers on Thursday.

Kalapse
QUOTE(GBlum## @ Aug 2, 2005 -> 02:27 PM) And if we get shutdown... We'll be his first major league victory. Maybe I just don't like watching the Sox lose, no matter what the circumstances.

RockRaines
QUOTE(YASNY @ Aug 2, 2005 -> 01:49 PM) "The next Nolan Ryan." that was Kerry "simulated Cy Young" Wood
Punch and Judy Garland
Hernandez is the next GOoden, Prior wasn't because he went to college basically. I think King Felix will pitch Thursday as planned but I'd rather he face the Sox because it'd be fun to watch. NIce that you can say things like that 15 up

BigSqwert
I would rather have the Sox face as many tough pitchers as possible before October so they can get a sense of what playoff pitching is all about. I don't want them to have a false sense of security by beating up on mediocre guys for the next 2 months. Cerbaho-WG
QUOTE(maggsmaggs @ Aug 2, 2005 -> 12:40 PM) Scary part about him is the Mariners are not letting use another potential 70-80 rated pitch, his slider. It's an 80. He can throw it as hard as 90 MPH.
Punch and Judy Garland
90 mph? That's all? Sounds mediocre like Brad Lidge's
