Totally agree. I don't know why we have this thing called perjury if it's never going to be enforced when it should.

I laugh out loud each and every time I see this Importer/Exporter post.

Hats off to one of the best Soxtalk handles of all time. :cheers

Hey, you know how they tell you to get yourself to the ER if it doesn't go back to normal in four hours' time...maybe you test postive for steroids. :huh

You know what I would LOVE to see happen. Go ahead. Admit him to the Hall of Fame. But, on the bottom line of his plaque I'd like to see one line:

This player tested postive for preformance-enhancing drugs.

That's it. One line. Every player that either a) tested postive or b ) admited steroid use--something I hope McGwire comes out and does--should have that one single line on the bottom of their plaque.

You can't argue their numbers don't belong. But, you can put that little jab in clear daylight for now until forever. The scorn those cheaters would receive from former Hall of Famers and fans alike would be punishement enough.

Does MLB look bad? Sounds like they can say that the testing works and that they aren't protecting anyone......unless of course we find out for sure that all the higher ups knew all along.

THAT would be the biggest scandal in sports ever.

Well.. they knew his test was positive at the very least 7 weeks ago it sounds like. Making a big deal of his 3000th hit makes them look like idots to me.

No doubt...no wonder the guy downplayed it so much...he knew he was nailed. I want to see some of these other idiots get nailed...

Wasn't there an appeal process and a test of the 2nd urine sample? Might that have taken 7 weeks?

No one else has been afforded that courtesy.. not the courtesy of a second test and an appeal.. I'm fine with that. It's not telling the media and celebrating a milestone while KNOWING he had tested dirty that I have issue with.

I heard a guy on ESPN yesterday morning say that everyone tested has to prodcue TWO cups of urine. If they test positive, then they test the second sample, just to make sure. That plus the appeal, I can see that taking a while.

I see your point and you may be right, all I'm saying is that MLB has enough excuses to cover it's ass and not look bad, IMO.

Also, 3000 hits IS a big deal, not celebrating it would have looked suspicious.

It's one sample split into 2.

They couldn't ignore his 3000th hit and they couldn't suspend him until the procedure had run it's course.  What choice did MLB have?

Ryan Franklin was not afforded the courtesy of his test results remaining secret until an appeal, if he chose or chooses to file one, were heard.

I believe you are mistaken about that. I'm not dead sure, but I think he has also had an appeal.

No, I'm right, he didn't. As a matter of fact he took the suspension and is doing nothing about it.

OK Steff, what ever you say.

"There's got to be a flaw in the system," he said Tuesday before the Mariners played the Tigers at Comerica Park. "I have no clue. I tested in (early) May and again three weeks later. The first was positive, the second was negative."

The pitcher said he first was told of his positive test in May - and "thought it was a joke" - then appealed and appeared before two arbitration committees.

The use of steroids such as stanozolol in professional baseball is linked to the desire to improve the performance of fast twitch muscle fibers. The fast twitch muscle fibers are those responsible for short-term strength and performance, traits useful for hitters trying to improve power hitting and overall batting performance. This in general would actually involve hand-eye coordination. So, it would be easier for the person to see/recognize pitches and take action to appropriately hit them...not just for power. So the argument that steroids just assist in power is pretty bunk.

Raffy is quite the idiot and a lying, cheating sonofab****...but I have to admit that I laughed, especially in the case of Palmeiro that one of the side effects of this specific steroid was "frequent and persistent erections".

Thanks Yas.. from his comment that "there's nothing I can do about it I'm serving the suspension and that's all I can do" I assumed he did not have an appeal.

Thanks also for not disappointing in your manner of correction..

So he didn't ask for one? That's why he wasn't given one,  :huh  and why the story broke right away.

No, apparently he asked for, and got one. I don't understand why he made the comments he did about serving the suspension and not being able to do anything about it. The two comments contridict eachother.
