How Real teams play baseball.

Just got back from work from Kane County Stadium, where the Single A affiliate of the Oakland A's play. These guys are fundamentally sound in every aspect of the game. I can't remember the last time I've seen a franchise with such fundamentally sound players as the A's.

The game was tied 4-4 in the bottom of the 10th. One man on first, and the batter lays down a perfect bunt down the first base line. The runner eventually moves to third and the catcher Jon Sumoni tries to take the ball into right field and hits it through a hole. Cougars win 5-4.

If only the Sox played fundamental baseball, it would take them a long way. The Cougars are currently in first place with a record of 22-8.

You know what they say, winning starts with the fundamentals.

...and continues with advanced mental development, culminating in exceptional, pure talent.

Unless those guys have at least 2 out of 3, no chance they see the Big Show.

I remember a team that played like that......

The 2002 Southern League Champion Birmingham Barons

Then the Barons no doubt had some decent coaching. Part of coaching is instructing, and part is correcting when you do something incorrectly. Just about everybody will occasionally do something fundamentally wrong sometime; it just needs to be corrected on the spot so it doesn't happen again. You know, like Little League. I doubt very much if JM corrects anybody when they do wrong.

Yes, but it also takes guys willing to give themselves up and willing to sacrifice for the good of the club. The Barons bunted a lot last year, and it didn't matter if it was the cleanup hitter or not. You won't get away with that in the Majors.

CWSOX:  Do their outfielders hit the cut-off men, or do they throw over their heads like Daubach did last night.

They're part of the Oakland farm system, if they didn't hit their cut off man they'd be benched.

Our franchise is a joke compared to Oakland's.

Man but the Cougars have torn it up for the last decade as part of the Marlins organization. The list of former Cougars who are now major leaguers is pretty impressive.

Notables:

Antonia Alfonseca

Josh Beckett

Joe Borowski

AJ Burnett

Luis Castillo

Ryan Dempster

Alex Gonzalez (the good one)

Jimmy Haynes

Charles Johnson

Mark Kotsay

Kevin Millar

Vladimir Nunez

Julio Ramirez (haha just a joke)

Edgar Renteria

Randy Winn

Greg Zaun

You could put together a halfway decent major league baseball team with this bunch... as long as Jerry Manuel wasn't managing them.

Can someone help me out. Does anyone understand what this stuff means?

I love that CW. But such an inning wont ever happen under Manuel. If we do get guys to first and third like we did last night the next guy will try to pull and well fail like usual. This team is incompetent of playing small ball to their advantage. That is why we need Backman as the manager. JM relies on the long ball, and while that is exciting it just doesnt get the job done. Backman, while getting the longball occasionally, will use steals and bunts to let us score a good percent of the times we get a man on base...

Right. The Marlins single A affiliate was here before moving last year, now the A's have come into town and are just rolling. If only the Sox played like this......

he should..he could bunt a rocket down the 3rd base line and the 3rd baseman will be so deep he could beat it w/o a throw

i dont how much this translates to playing in the major s but when played ball whenever i slumped (which was alot  ) i always thought bunting a few t imes here and there help me start seeing the ball better and helped get my timing back

he should bunt - at a home game though, as that would really make it worth the price of admission!

Whatever works - it is not how long the hit, it is getting on base and getting the hitting going -
