Soxpranos
Great Knight For Offense August 4, 2005 FORT MILL, S.C. --The Knights put on an offensive clinic, scoring 12 runs on 17 hits to defeat the Durham Bulls 12-2 in the first game of the series Thursday night. With every Knight in the lineup collecting at least one hit, Greg Norton had two solo home runs while Ross Gload and Scott Bikowski each added another. Joe Borchard was 4-for-5 with two runs scored, and Bikowski was a perfect 3-for-3 with a double, a home run, four RBIs and two runs scored. Norton (2-for-5, 2 HR), Ross Gload (2-for-4, 2B, HR, 2 RBIs) and Jamie Burke (2-for-5, 2B, 3 RBIs) each had two hits. Working on the defensive side in relief of Jim Bullard, Matt Smith (1-6) earned his first win of the season after allowing just one hit in 2 1/3 innings. For the Bulls, Lance Carter was tagged with the loss after allowing four runs on five hits in five innings. For the Knights, the scoring was early and often as they collected at least one run in every inning except the second. The first of Norton's home runs put the Knights on the board in the first. After being dealt the leadoff walk in the third, Bikowski scored the second run on a double by Willie Harris up the right side, and Gload's solo shot in the fourth put the Knights up 3-0. After working through four scoreless innings, Bullard got into some trouble allowing a double and two walks to load the bases in the fifth. The third walk of the inning scored the Bulls first run and led to Bullard's early exit. In the bottom of the fifth, the Knights got the run back when Bikowski blasted his first home run of the season over the wall in right center field. With two outs each time, the Knights added three runs in both the sixth and seventh innings. Against reliever Jason Phillips, the Knights tacked together five two-out base hits in the sixth, allowing Gload, Borchard and Burke to cross the plate. The story repeated itself in the seventh as Phillips earned the first two outs quickly but allowed back-to-back singles to Borchard and Burke, who both scored on the double by Bikowski. Borchard's single drove in Gload, who reached on a fielder's choice. The Bulls got their second and final run in the eighth as B.J. Upton scored on an Earl Synder single. In the bottom of the eighth, Norton collected his 13th home run of the season, and Roosevelt Brown -the last Knights' batter to get a hit, scored on a ground out from Gload for the final run of the game. The Bulls and Knights play game two of the series as Arnie Munoz (6-10, 3.75) will take the mound against John Webb (8-4, 4.50) for the Bulls. Notes: Matt Smith earned his first win of the season, 1-6. Scott Bikowski hit his first home run of the season, 3-3, 2B, HR, 4 RBIs. Greg Norton now has 13 home runs, and Ross Gload has 10 in High A ball... Gio Gonzalez took the loss..had a bad defensive game (Gio did) throwing the ball away . BHAMBARONS
Mississippi 2 Barons 0 W-Smith (9-1) L- Haigwood (2-1) What a pitching performance tonight Chuck James is the real deal and will be an Atlanta Brave soon. James is by far and away the best pitching prospect in the SL this year with a big time breaking ball that made a lot of our good hitters look horrible. Right with him pitch for pitch was Haigwood who had a dominting breaking pitch as well it was very unfortunate that his only run was given up on a Antoin Gray Error who the inning before failed to drive in a run from third with one out. Jerry Owens had an awsome game 3-4 and was robbed of an RBI single on a great diving catch by Onil Joseph.
dasox24
Hell yeah. My boy Haigwood keeps rollin'. Hopefully, he'll start getting some more much deserved publicity.

southsider2k5
Great outing for Bull. I would have to imagine after only working 6 innings in the last month that the wheels came off in the fifth inning after he got tired. Great job none the less. southsider2k5
QUOTE(kapkomet @ Aug 5, 2005 -> 07:26 AM) Bull's working hard to come back from his injury I see. GO BULL! From what he told me a couple of weeks ago, he sounds like he is back to full strength now. When healthy a guy like that is invaluable to a team as he does everything from start, to spot start, to long reliever, to middle reliver, to set up man, to close. He did it all at Bham, and it seems like he is going to do it all at Charlotte.
3E8
Seems like Owens has a multihit game every other night.

Jerry Owens had an awsome game 3-4 and was robbed of an RBI single on a great diving catch by Onil Joseph. I'll be honest with you, I liked Haigwood better last night. James was good, no doubt. He throws a little harder and his ball seems hard to pick up and seems to get on top of the hitter before he knows it. But I liked Haigwood's poise and command equally as well and I really liked Haigwood's breaking ball last night. It was the first time I had seen him, but I came away quite impressed.
