QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 5, 2005 -> 09:32 PM)
Personally, I'd like to see Uribe up in the order against the lefty.  We're going to need his offense if we want to start scoring some runs, and he was very good up in the order last year.  It seems to me like he would focus more.  I'm all for putting Iguchi in the 3rd hole right now.  I know he's great in the 2nd spot, but if Pods isn't getting on base, he does us no good batting there.

Uribe wont change his hitting based on where he is in the lineup. He is a reckless swinger no matter what. All that happens if you bump him up is that Uribe kills a rally quicker.

When he came to the team fatter this year it should of been a warning sign to the team.

He was much better higher in the order last year, I thought a poster stated earlier. All I know is that the current lineup isn't doing much of anything. Hell, we had two solid offensive showings with Timo batting leadoff.

Great a soft tossing lefty who spots a fastball on the outside corner.  Good lord.

Considering the Sox have hit better against lefties this season than righties, you're calling us facing a lefty a BAD thing?

Maybe we should just bench Uribe when we play at home altogether.

He is batting a wonderful .206 at home with a lovely .230 OBP.

Crede is next with a .213 BA at home.

Away from the Cell Uribe is batting .275 with a .322 OBP.

Crede is .286 away from the Cell.

Maybe the swinging for the fences comments isnt just speculation.

Here's the thing....we're going to win or lose with Crede and Uribe on the left side of the infield. There's nothing we can do about their lack of offense now. They're both going to be playing the majority of the rest of the games, so we just have to hope they play at a high level. We still have a 13 game lead, so we can afford some players slumping. However, if they think it's tough playing in front of large crowds now (and struggling)....just wait until the noose is tightened if this large lead becomes less than 5 or so. There's no reason for this team to be playing tight right now.

The offense prostituted itself for Pineiro tonight. It lay itself down in front of a sellout crowd--again.

Not since Kirk Sarloos have I seen more hanging breaking balls missed by our hitters. You have to honestly wonder if their approach was "Well, Pineiro has a 6+ ERA. Let's swing for the fences and pad our homerun totals!" Because the mediocre pitcher wearing the Seattle uniform was FAR from the dominant starter we've seen the last fear years. Anyone else notice his fastball rarely topped 91? I recall him consistently hitting 94.

I always seem to mention this observation in threads where we're overwhelmed by a terrible pitcher. Again, it applies. Pineiro just didn't find himself at a 6 ERA because of one bad outting which skewed his numbers. This is a pitcher, who in his last 16 starts, had only won ONE f***ING GAME. Last 7 starts he has surrendered 4 earned runs in each outting.

It's corpseball ridden games such as these I simply can't "forget about it and move on." The entire league is full of medicore pitchers. For a team aspiring to move deep into the playoffs, you need to battle against the average pitchers of the league and take your chances against the upper echelon. The approach this team takes to the Pineiro's of the world appears to comprise of pull-baseball interrupted with an occasional popup and GIDP.

Just got back home from the airport. Checked my phone (4 hour flight from San Fran) and what a disappointment. So lets see.....Sox play like s*** in front of large crowds at home. Not a very good formula for October. Jesus Christ.

It's definitely frustrating. I'm petrified about how this team is going to play w/ homefield advantage in the playoffs. :o
