IlliniKrush
I think this fact - a team's ranking when you beat them - is overlooked far too often.
Heads22
QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Nov 16, 2005 -> 01:52 AM) The No. 4 and No. 6 are retroactive. That's what they finished at the end of the year (or at least that's what I'm assuming) The statement Josh made is probably 100% accurate. They are 9-1 against the last 10 teams who were in the Top 10 when they played them. Normally a loss to MSU is enough to keep you out of the top 10 for the rest of the year. It doesn't have the same effect as a loss to Iowa State....

Which reminds me....Iowa State is so ridiculously close to 10-0 this year it hurts. Loss to Nebraska.....just slipped away. Loss to Baylor.......not excusable for anyone Loss to Mizzou....shut down Brad Smith but allowed 10 points at the end of the game.

Yes, you are correct, you could be 10-0. I'm a student at NIU and was at the Iowa State game in DeKalb in '03 that we did win, and at the game in Ames last year we could have won....so I kinda find myself rooting for you guys these days. Same with Iowa, or I should say 1-loss team for Iowa. The ISU game, if Tate hadn't gone psycho trying to tackle people, I believe that's a completely different game. The Michigan game. Iowa had the ball with about 90 seconds left, down 3, 2nd and 5 from the 15, and ran the ball to the middle of the field to set up the field goal. -- Get the first down you dips***s. you have a chance to win it. Lost in OT. Northwestern -- that was one lucky hop on the Onside kick. 14 points in the final minutes. Ugh. OSU is far superior to Iowa. No way they would have won that game under any circumstances. Heads22
QUOTE(CubsSuck1 @ Nov 16, 2005 -> 03:45 PM) @ Toledo tonight Has NIU just fallen that far this year? I remember rooting for them in games when they didn't play ISU (tough for me to do that for many other teams). Heh, they had two solid QB's last year when a few upper teams cannot find one. Heads22
QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Nov 16, 2005 -> 04:28 PM) Iowa is still better than ISU. So I suppose they could beat them convincingly head-to-head? ISU was better when they played Iowa and they are the second/third best team in the Big 12 right now, despite a quarterback going through Gary Pinkel's Syndrome. The 5th or 6th best team in the Big 10 is better than the 2nd best team in the Big 12, imo.

I remember rooting for them in games when they didn't play ISU (tough for me to do that for many other teams). Heh, they had two solid QB's last year when a few upper teams cannot find one. VERY VERY young team with a ton of injuries....our first QB from last year (Haldi) graduated, and our 2nd (Horvath) broke his arm last week. We put in a RS Freshman kid named Dan Nicholson and he threw for about 330 as we won a big road game at CMU. Last 2 games are tonight at Toledo and a week from today at home against Western Michigan. If we win those 2, we go to the MAC Title game and a Bowl, pretty simple. And last year we went to and won a bowl game while going 9-3, so I wouldn't say we have fallen off, we just haven't beat a BCS team in the last 2 years. chimpy2121
NIU looks like theyll finally beat Toledo!!!! It is 35-17 with 4:00 left. Dan Nicholson looked great, and Wolfe was his normal self

chimpy2121
That was nasty. It was all Gradkowskis fault too. He led his WR right into that. Its always scary when they are down for that long.

That'd be freaking fantabulous. So would Holiday for that matter.

For Iowa, it's beat minnesota, and have OSU and PSU win their games to secure BCS bids. I imagine ISU needs to win (and that might be it) (but a shellacking at the hands of UT in the Dr. Pepper Bowl could kill their chances once again) I can't see the Holiday and Cotton passing up OU, TT, and CU just to get ISU. There's no cachet surrounding the ISU club. They'll fill the stadium, but the ratings will be crap. What's the #5 bowl for the big 12? I'd say that's a much more likely destination for the Clones. I'm just going off of what the Cotton Bowl rep said about ISU on Cold Pizza. Texas = Rose If OU beats TTU, but then loses to OSU (both which aren't tooooo farfetched) ISU could slip in. Someone's gonna take a hit in the OU-TTU game, especially if one gets shellacked. #5 bowl is Houston, who has pretty much stated they'll take ISU if they slide that far. However, ISU is the second hottest team in the Big 12 (No one's passing Texas) and with another win that will be 5 in a row. I can see ISU landing anywhere between Cotton and Champs Sports, but Texas Tech's loss to OSU brought this into play. Where the heck does Iowa go with a loss? Sun? Music/Motor City? Pecking order Rose = BCS 1 or 2 - no Fiesta = Big 12 champ I believe - Take some crazy s***, including an ISU upset of Texas in Big 12 champ game - no Cotton = Big 12 #2 - ISU win and OU and TTU both dropping another game, along with playing like crap - eh Holiday = Big 12 #3 - ISU win, probably Colorado loss, as apparently Colorado is connected with a rep - small chance Alamo = Big 12 #4 - ISU win - Arguably a good fit, especially if OU and TTU go in above.... Houston = Big 12 #5/6 - Wanted ISU last year - couldn't get them - shouldn't slide past here Independence = Big 12 #5/6 - Very small chance of another trip back. Champs Sports - Big 12 #7 - ISU 30 point loss to Kansas Fort Worth - Big 12 #8 - Nope.
Heads22
Also, if Iowa slips in the Alamo, that pushes ISU down automatically. /Big 12 bowls and tv contract sun It'll be nice to get the Gator/Sun deal in the near future.
