Garland may have 3 more wins however Buehrle IMO as of August 7th is the AL Cy Young. Thankyou for looking that up Kalapse before I saw that I was split down the middle beetween garland and buehrle. Now i have decided it should be Buehrle
Whitewashed in '05
I believe one of them has to win it. If one of them doesn't its bs. As for Zito, he had a mediocre 1st half, the only way for him to win it is if he has like a 1 ERA from the 2nd half until the end of the season kind of like Santana last year. VAfan
But don't forget the year when steroids-Giambi robbed Frank of his 3rd MVP because he "finished strong." The A's get a lot more play from ESPN and it helps them in the voting I think. Buerhle is the most deserving, but he has to keep his form down the stretch. It would also help to win 20+. nitetrain8601
I think Mariano will be a strong contender. He's been lights out this year. I also think Garland should get it over Buehrle. Look at the teams Garland has shut down and look at the teams Buerhle's struggled with. Kalapse, I think since the stats are close for the most part those 3 wins would help Garland. I suggest putting up the game by game splits as well. And doesn't Garland have more QS than Buehrle?

Right now I'm tied between the two of them, but Buehrle has been awesome and I'd agree he's pitched better this year. I just hope they both get a big gold world series ring on opening day next year
Jordan4life_2007
I don't care who wins it. I just love the fact that we can make a legitimate argument for both our guy's.
DBAHO
As great as Garland's been this season, I don't think you can go past Buerhle. He had that streak going, had a huge stretch of games in the middle of the year after the Minny game at the start of the year where he didn't lose, and I think he just deserves because he's been so good for so long at someone his age which is really quite remarkable in itself. Rowand44
They've both been awesome. Buehrle is still the better pitcher in my mind and has had the better year but Jon's right there, Jon's also been a big game pitcher this year, he's been our stopper a lot after our extraordinary long 3 game losing streaks. They both deserve it.

I'm not sure how those stats go one way or the other for either pitcher, it looks like it's pretty even right now. I wouldn't count Halliday out just yet and Colon has as good a shot as anyone. Ask anyone around baseball and the streak is pretty much useless. It doesn't really mean a thing. I could understand if he had 49 QS in a row, but that's not the case. And with Ozzie at the helm, he usually leaves his pitchers in there for long enough. I don't think the streak is going to give it to Buehrle. Garland has been our stopper this year which has been said and has 3 more wins. That counts for something.
