1920 - After the Cubs are charged with throwing a game in late August, the Chicago papers have a field day & the 1919 White Sox are added to a grand jury investigation. Despite their acquittal of all charges new commissioner Landis bans the 8 players implicated for life. The team was on pace to win the World Series but instead finished 2nd with minor-leaguers making up most of the roster.

 

1927 -Promising CF Johnny Mostil tries to commit suicide.

1938- Promising pitcher Monty Stratton (30-14) loses a leg to a hunting accident.

1955- Star pitcher Dick Donovan (13-4) loses an appendix & the Sox finish five out.

1959- Sox lose the WS to the LAD in 6 games. The last time they won at home in the post.

1963- Sox trade Luis Aparicio.

1968- The Sox begin a move to pay TV. Losing the first 10 gms doesn't help.

1969- Strong rumors of the WhiteSox moving to Milwaukee doom the season.

1969- ALROY leader Carlos May lost for the season in an accident in Army training.

1975- Strong rumors of the WhiteSox moving to Seattle doom the season.

1979- Disco demolition night leads to forfeiture of game 2 of a doubleheader.

1980- Strong rumors of the WhiteSox moving to Denver doom the season.

1980- The Reinsdorf era begins & the Sox move off broadcast TV. Harry Caray bolts for Cubs.

1983- Sox win ALW by 20 gms but fail it O's in ALCS with fluke hit.

1988- Strong rumors of the WhiteSox moving to St Pete doom the season.

1988- Creation of the ISFA leads to Comiskey Park II.

1991- CP II opens to terrible reviews.

1993- Sox lose to Blue Jays in ALCS. MJ retires & contemplates joining the White Sox.

1994- Sox lead Indians by 1 gm in the ALW when the strike ends the season.

2000- A toughly fought contest can't prevent the M's sweep in the ALDS.
