Make a trade with SF for Ray Durham. He should make it through waivers. Getting Ray for DH and a few games at 2b wouldn't be the worst thing in the world. Esp as Ray could bat in the #3 hole

Trade who? And what do we do with his salary?

They pay it. Ray's bat is the kind the sox could use. They don't need another power bat. They could use another OBP guy who hits close to .300. in the #3 hole. Carl Everett likely won't be resigned for next yr. Ray would then take over DH and play 2b when Iguchi needs days off.

As far as who trade, maybe 3b Josh fields who could plausibly take over when Alfonzo leaves after 2006. Crede has proven [with his glove and decent bat] that he's the sox long term guy [at least for the next few yrs] at 3b

Word has it that alot of players are being claimed off of waivers. That gives me the impression that alot of teams want/need help. The odds of Ray Ray getting all the way to us would be pretty slim, considering the too largest budget teams in front of us could easily afford and need a 2B like Ray, and a bat like his as well. I dont really see this happening realistically.

In your opinion, what can be done to help this offense?  If KW is likely to make a move, it will be for another OF/DH type that probably won't play more than Everett would.  The left side of our team (SS, 3B, and LF) has been just awful lately, but all three of those guys aren't going anywhere.  What can be done to kick-start an offense that really seems flat and isn't producing.  I know our pitching has been super, but in order to be successful during this very difficult stretch of our schedule, we're going to have to be able to score more than 2 or 3 runs on a given night.  With Pods struggling like crazy to get on base, and then having just as much of a struggle stealing succesfully, it might be a good idea to cut down on the straight stolen base attempt, and go with more hit-and-runs to utilize Pods speed.

Timo not batting 5th.

What makes you think that the Reds are going to change their minds and decide to trade Griffey?  Wouldn't they have done it before the deadline when when they could have gotten prospects on our 40-man (Rogowski)?  I think that the only way we get Griffey is if we eat most, if not all, of his contract.  And we still may not get him because he has to approve the trade, and that is if he clears waivers on top of everything else.

I would love to have him on this team, but the chances are very slim.

Whether they would trade him or not i don't know. But if he is available, i probably wouldn't take on his contract, unless the Reds pay some off his deferred salary.

That's a good point but it's still getting Pods less ab's and still a switch in the order.  Like I said, I'd love to see Aaron moved up to the 3 hole and Carl in the 5 slot, not gonna happen but that's what I'd like to see.  Agree to disagree. :cheers

I agree that Rowand is probably are best option at #3, he will get more fastballs to hit w/ Pk behind him, and Carl protects PK. This would be my lineup if we don't acquire another bat........Pods, Iguchi, Rowand, PK, Everett, Dye, AJ, Crede, Uribe..........For better or worse :gosox1:

The White Sox originally offered to pay all but $15M of the $$$ owed to Griffey. So my guess is as Griffey continues to hit multi-rbi HR's the White Sox are thinking of absorbing the $15M & upping the talent cost as well.

The Reds have no obligation to trade Griffey which means the White Sox have to entice that CEO to make the trade. As for clearing waivers that's where his price tag favors the White Sox. All the scouts that have weighed in on the issue believe he will definitely clear waivers should the Reds put him on waivers.

Short of getting Griffey we need more LH bats in the lineup & we need to move Uribe. He's not going to break out hitting 9th. He had a breakout Aug & Sep last year hitting #2 in the lineup. You expect a struggling hitter to give himself up to move the runner over. It's foolish to push that role on your hottest bat.

SP: MB, FG, JG, JC, OH. RP:LV, NC, CP, DM, DH, BJ, JA

The extra arm weakens the bench. Adkins was last used Aug 2nd.

That's a waste. It's also a sign the SP is becoming dominant again.

It's a tough decision to make.

Lineup change w/out KGJ:

Pods-Uribe-Iguchi-Kong-Rowand-DH-Dye-AJ-Crede

DH candidates from bench: Everett, Widger, Blum, Perez

The only flexibility you have is Perez. He's expendable.

ml candidates:

Roosevelt Brown : age 30, 279 ab, 37 rbi, 133 tb, 32 bb, 40 K, .366O, .477S, .294A, 1E

Jerry Owens: age 24, 404 ab, 38 rbi, 162 tb, 40 b, 58 k, 31/47 sb, .398O, .401S, .339A, 2E

Even though it will cost us an option I say bring Owens up now. Even if he struggles at the plate he still has a good glove & solid speed to be a better PR than Perez. 404 ab in AA is enough for one season.

I say spend the option & bring up Owens now. If he gets hot then KW doesn't need to trade for another bat that isn't KGJ. If he's cold then KW might be able to entice Philly into dumping Thome. That's another contract that should clear waivers if Philly should put him on waivers.

Thome played as a DH in an A game this week as he continues his rehab assignment.

Both Thome & Griffey Jr are unique options for the White Sox because as long as Chicago agrees to pay more of the contract than the other teams these players should clear waivers.
