southsider2k5
Rooney's future Sox, WSCR call Radio play-by-play man's contract up after this season Fred Mitchell August 9, 2005 When it comes to no-nonsense, accurate baseball play-by-play broadcasting, White Sox radio voice John Rooney has been a soothing, professional fixture for the past 18 years. But with the Sox's radio rights shifting from WMVP AM-1000 to WSCR AM-670 next season, Rooney's future association with the ballclub remains up in the air. "John's contract is up this year and we anticipate getting something done with the Sox," said Steve Mandell, Rooney's Chicago-based agent. "They say they would love to have him back, so we've been talking. We'll see. The Sox are having a huge year, so the focus is staying on the success of the team." Sox management and WSCR executives will make the decision on the team's play-by-play man for next season. Rooney has teamed with color analyst Ed Farmer for the past 14 years and an Internet site recently acknowledged them as the best radio team in the American League. "There is a longstanding relationship with the Sox," Mandell said. "I don't anticipate a lot of changes, but we will have to go through the process." Rooney's broadcast experience includes national stints with Fox Sports, as well as coverage of college football bowl games and the NCAA basketball Final Four. EvilJester99
They better bring back Rooney... they can leave Farmer out though... that would be fine by me.
bjm676
I'm sure he'll be back. At least I hope so. Going to a new station, rated #1 in the AL among radio broadcasters. It would make sense. Then again, money talks.
Steve9347
It would be a sad day when John Rooney left White Sox radio...
Balta1701
Could Rooney take DJ's spot?
spiderman
Hopefully Mike North won't make the decision as he does seem to have great pull there... John Rooney does a great job. Not bringing him back would be foolish...
JUGGERNAUT
I can't see how any station would break up the #1 MLB radio team in America. :rolly
DukeNukeEm
I love both Rooney and Farmer. Losing either would be a travesty.
Steve9347
QUOTE(JUGGERNAUT @ Aug 9, 2005 -> 11:52 AM) I can't see how any station would break up the #1 MLB radio team in America. :rolly #1 AL radio team... regardless, Rooney & Farmer are the best, IMO, and both need to be here for 2006. SouthsideNorthsideFan
Rooney's good, but Farmio's got the Sox attitude and optimism.
kev211
In the end is it up to the white sox or WSCR to make the decision?
WSoxMatt
QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Aug 9, 2005 -> 12:32 PM) Rooney rox. He's the best guy in town. Radio or TV. In town, any sport, I would rank Rooney #2 behind Pat Foley!!!
White Sox Josh
I love Farmer however maybe they could put him in the TV Booth and put Stoney on the radio considering he does work for the Score. It would be perfect because he is a former Sox pitcher.
