YASNY
QUOTE(JUGGERNAUT @ Aug 18, 2005 -> 11:14 AM) If you look at the transaction logs there are listings for players clearing waivers & being re-assigned to the minors in the month of August. That doesn't fly. Martinez was optioned to the minors in March '04 based on your own post. He was on the 40, based on that post. He wouldn't have been sent through waivers and re-assigned to the minors because he was already in the minors. Care to try again?
3E8
QUOTE(JUGGERNAUT @ Aug 17, 2005 -> 08:10 PM) For those who still think BMac, &/or Anderson would have to clear ML waivers please explain the following trade: STL 8/06/04 Traded RHP Jason Burch and 2 PTBNL to COL for OF Larry Walker. COL 8/11/04 Acquired LHP Luis Martinez and RHP Chris Narveson from STL. Martinez had been claimed off waivers from MIL prior to ST. If PTBNL has to be on the 40 man roster then this would be an example where they didn't have to clear ML waivers. The league would not announce the trade if any players had to clear ML waivers. If they did have to clear then a contender could easily claim any such players to block the trade. Burch, Martinez, and Narveson weren't on the Cardinals 40-man at the time of that trade, so none had to clear waivers.
JUGGERNAUT
Griffey clearing isn't in any transaction log. This is a different type of waivers, they let the players clear through and than they are available for trade. Its only documented on the major league waiver wire which goes to all the teams and the major league offices. On a sidenote, I think Colorado was the worse or one of the 2 worse teams last season when they made the trade so they didn't need guys to pass through waivers (most likely). <{POST_SNAPBACK}> It shows up whenever a player has to clear waivers for an assignment to a ML or ml club. A trade is considered an assignment from one ML club to another. I'd agree it most likely was a non-issue with COL being one of the worst teams in the NL that year. Wrt the White Sox though it's a non-issue. According to Neyer's tran primer you have 6 months to declare a PTBNL & you can even use cash in lieu of such agreements. I can't find anything that disputes this so it seems very likely the White Sox could use PTBNL to complete a trade for KGJ. The ML waiver period ends on Oct 2nd. YASNY, option yrs don't have the same meaning during the OR & ML waiver periods. Ex: A player is promoted to a ML club & remains with that club for 4 yrs. The player would have all 3 option yrs left. But to assign him in Aug to either a ml club or ML club the team would have to secure ML waivers. See ML waiver rule. 3E8, please explain how players optioned to the ml's can be removed from the 40 man roster. I didn't see any transactions on Burch so it's likely he was not on the 40- man but Martinez & Narveson were definitely optioned to the ml's with STL. Kyyle23
QUOTE(zygoat @ Aug 22, 2005 -> 11:37 AM) dimitri young would be the worst player to get after that bulls*** comment "the american league central will be between the indians and the tigers" he would f*** everything up this is the lamest reason I have seen for not wanting to acquire Dmitri Young, and it seems to be common. So what if he ran his mouth at the beginning of the year? Everyone had the Indians picked for a rebirth, and Detroit looked pretty solid on paper. So he got caught up and made a prediction that his team will be better than all of the other teams in the division save one? Who cares? Could Dmitri Youngs bat be helpful in the order is the only question that should be asked. .263, 19 HR, .792 OBPS, 60 RBI. We already have these numbers in our lineup. So no, he really isnt needed.
