greasywheels121
http://iuhoosiers.collegesports.com/sports.../081705aaf.html Indiana Announces 2005-06 Men's Basketball Schedule Aug. 17, 2005 BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The 2005-06 Indiana basketball schedule has a distinct blend of national and local flavors, as the Hoosiers face four in-state teams, and eight schools that competed in last season's NCAA Tournament. Additionally, Indiana is currently slated to appear on national television on 13 occasions, and could have as many as 15 regular season appearances. Indiana is well-acquainted with competitive schedules, as it annually ranks among the nation's strength of schedule leaders. Considering that IU coach Mike Davis returns 63 percent of his team's scoring and 68 percent of the team's rebounding from last season, combined with the arrival of another one of the nation's premier recruiting classes, the Hoosiers will be ready. "We have a great schedule and it will certainly test us early and often throughout the season," Davis said. "The thing that I like about this schedule is that it will provide an objective gauge of our team's progress. Games with Duke, Kentucky and Connecticut will showcase our program nationally, while we have also had some great games in the past few years with Indiana State, Butler and Ball State. Our fans deserve the chance to see some of the nation's elite teams, along with quality in-state programs." The Hoosiers' Nov. 30 Big Ten-ACC Challenge game against Duke on Branch McCracken Court at Assembly Hall opens a four-week stretch that includes crucial games against Kentucky (Dec. 10 at the RCA Dome in Indianapolis) and at Charlotte (Dec. 19) to go along with key local matchups at Indiana State (Dec. 3), vs. Butler at Conseco Fieldhouse (Dec. 23) and at Ball State (Dec. 31). IU then takes a break from Big Ten action to host Connecticut on Feb. 4. Indiana will have two exhibition games prior to beginning the regular season. The Hoosiers will host a couple of Division II schools in St. Joseph's College of Indiana on Nov. 4, followed by the University of Indianapolis on Nov. 10. IU will open the 2005-06 campaign with home games against Nicholls State on Nov. 18 and Florida A&M on Nov. 21. The Nov. 18 regular season opener marks the Hoosiers' earliest since the 2001-02 campaign, when IU opened the season with a 65-61 triumph at Charlotte on Nov. 18, 2001 and closed the campaign at the NCAA Final Four in Atlanta. After travelling to Western Illinois on Nov. 26 for the first road contest of the season, the Hoosiers will return home for the Big Ten-ACC Challenge where they will face the Blue Devils. It will mark the first-ever meeting between the two schools in Bloomington, and it will be just the second time this decade the storied programs will meet on the hardwood. The ACC Tournament champions finished with an overall record of 27-6 (11-5/3rd in ACC) and made it to the NCAA Sweet 16 before bowing out to Michigan State. Indiana closes its two-game homestand on Dec. 3 when it hosts Eastern Michigan of the Mid-American Conference. The EMU game serves as a homecoming of sorts for IU graduate and former student manager and administrative assistant Dusty May, who is in his first season as an Eastern Michigan assistant. The Hoosiers will remain in-state in four of the last five non-league games in the month of December. IU will make a historic trip when it travels to Terre Haute, Ind., to face in-state rival Indiana State on Dec. 6. That game will mark just the second time since 1908 the Hoosiers will play the Sycamores on their home floor. -more- Indiana meets Kentucky on Dec. 10 in the RCA Dome in Indianapolis. The Hoosiers and Wildcats have two of the more decorated programs in college basketball history, combining for 12 national titles and 78 NCAA Tournament appearances. Indiana returns to action on Dec. 19 at Charlotte. Although the Hoosiers own a 3-1 all-time series advantage against the 49ers, three of the last four games between Indiana and Charlotte have been decided by four points or less. Indiana will close out the 2005 calendar year with trips to Conseco Fieldhouse to play Butler (Dec. 23) and to Muncie, Ind. to visit Ball State on New Year's Eve. The Hoosiers generally make themselves at home in the Circle City and at Conseco Fieldhouse in particular. IU owns a 66-11 ledger in games played in Indianapolis, including 10-3 at Conseco. Ironically, Conseco will host the 2006 Big Ten Tournament March 8-12. The always tough Big Ten Conference schedule will feature home and home games against Michigan (Bloomington on Jan. 3, Ann Arbor on March 4), Michigan State (Bloomington on Feb. 26, East Lansing on Jan. 11), Illinois (Bloomington on Jan. 17, Champaign on Feb. 19), Purdue (Bloomington on Jan. 21, West Lafayette on Feb. 28 or March 1 or March 2), Iowa (Bloomington on Feb. 11, Iowa City on Jan. 24) and Penn State (Bloomington on Feb. 22, State College on Feb. 15). The Hoosiers will play four teams only once as Ohio State (Jan. 8) and Northwestern (Feb. 1) come to Bloomington and IU travels to Minnesota (Minneapolis on Jan. 29) and Wisconsin (Madison on Feb. 8). Indiana takes a break from the league ledger when it hosts Connecticut on Feb. 4. It marks the Huskies' first visit to Bloomington since Dec. 17, 1938, a 71-38 Hoosier triumph. This year's contest features two of the nation's top lowpost duos. Indiana's D.J. White was the 2005 Big Ten Freshman of the Year, and he will be joined by 6-7, 270-pound Marco Killingsworth to bring a formidable inside presence against Connecticut sophomore Rudy Gay and junior Josh Boone. In fact, White and Gay worked together as counselors at the recent Nike All-American Camp in Indianapolis, as well as at Michael Jordan's annual Flight School in Santa Barbara, Calif. White and Gay may work together this summer, but they will each be poised for this non-conference tilt. "D.J.'s progress this summer is just one example of how hard our team has worked this offseason," Davis said of his All-American candidate, whose work in the weight room has resulted in the addition of 15 pounds to his 6-9 frame. "Marco could be the best transfer in the nation this season. (Auburn transfer) Lewis Monroe and (junior college transfer) Earl Calloway give us two quality point guards. I really like the approach that Marshall Strickland, Robert Vaden and A.J. Ratliff have taken this offseason. (Incoming freshman) Joey Shaw has been here for most of the summer working out, and (incoming freshman) Ben Allen is playing for the Australian national team. "I have always said that the expectations for a team should match its personnel. We have a deep and talented roster that is ready for the challenges ahead." greasywheels121
Andy Katz ranks Indiana #18 in his Sizzling 50 teams of the 2005-2006 season! http://sports.espn.go.com/ncb/news/story?id=2136606 18.INDIANA Credentials: The Hoosiers could have one of the top frontcourts in the country with Auburn transfer Marco Killingsworth, D.J. White and Robert Vaden, with Ben Allen coming off the bench. The guard play could be solid, albeit without a star. Reason: Killingsworth was a big-time talent at Auburn but can he duplicate that two years later in the Big Ten? He has one season to prove he's NBA-worthy. We're banking that he and White can lead the Hoosiers back to the NCAAs. Should be interesting to watch the Hoosiers and Iowa joust in the Big Ten. Red flag: Consistent perimeter shooting could be an issue if Marshall Strickland can't make buckets on a regular basis. Also, Lewis Monroe has to be a stable point guard for this squad or Earl Calloway could be the replacement quickly. Regardless, the Hoosiers must have solid point guard play to make a run in the Big Ten.
