Raul Ibanez

White Sox Josh

Recommended Posts

He can't play a TON of positions. He can play some OF and some 1B, that is all. The question is, is he a big enough upgrade over Everett to pay the amount for him that the Mariners would be asking for.

They got Bazardo from the Marlins for Villone, that was way too much for a journeyman lefty reliever like Villone and at the same time they asked for McCarthy from the Sox for Villone, which is total horses***.

Their price for a guy like Ibanez could be too ridiculous. There are a few GMs this trade deadline that have proven to be delusional and disconnected from the game.

Ibanez could be a nice pickup for this club but the price could be too outrageous for a player like him.

his numbers are pretty damn good. He isn't bad defensively either though not good either. His numbers are: AVG .293 | HR 15 | RBI 68 in a pitchers park.

s***, right now this offense is so bad, if Timo was on another team, I would want the Sox to trade for Timo

That's not the issue, the issue is the price to get him. Think Chris Young and Gio Gonzalez.

That sounds about right. Both are top 10 prospects which is about what they'd be looking for. The price is just too damn high. Bazardo was the 3rd ranked player in the Marlins system and Seattle got him for Villone. Taking 2 of the Sox top 10 is about what they'd be looking to do.

And people are going to say well for Griffey they only want Young and Rogowski plus a mid - level prospect (which was the deadline deal). Well the issue is this. Ibanez only has what 1 year left on his deal, is younger and his salary is manageable. And of course Bill Bavasi probably won't want to trade one of the guys HE signed to try and save face. He's already under enouh pressure at it is right now.

I have a question about Dmitri Young...since he can play 1B is his defense better than Paulies?? If so the Sox could use him at 1b and have Paulie DH. I don't have time here at work to check all the stats so any info would be good. Thanks.

PK is one of the most underrated defensive players at his position. So I would much rather have PK then young at 1st. Young is more of a DH then 1 1B.

I saw Dimitri Young play at 1B in one game at Arizona first hand. To sum it up, Conor Jackson would be a better fielding first baseman than Dimitri Young. He was awful.

It's the 2005 Trade Market. So many of these teams that are below .500 don't want to trade their big players because they want to win now, they've had enough of losing. That's why you didn't see the Pittsburgh's and the Cincinatti's trading the Griffey's and Mesa's etc.

The one thing that often gets overlooked with Konerko is his ability to pick every low throw out of the dirt. He makes all the in-between hops look easy, something that very few 1b out there can do. He also has a very good arm for a first basemen but that shouldn't be suprising because he used to catch. However, sometimes his range from left to right can be questioned. On Tuesday night, he had one of his classic slow-motion dives for a ball hit to his left. But overall, his defense is not one of our pressing concerns at this point.

Young would be our DH which would be fine IMO. (not that this is going to happen ;) )

PK was a catcher? I knew he played 1st but he was a catcher? WOW you learn something new everyday

Why not send someone like Jerry Owens and a couple similar prospects for Ibanez? He's not on the 40-man roster, so he wouldn't have to clear waivers. And he's hot, so maybe he has value. Yet, at 24, he probably has less upside than Sweeney or Chris Young. Ibanez could start in LF while Pods is on the DL, and afterward could spell Dye, Rowand (with Pods in CF after he returns), Everett, and Konerko. We'd have no need to Timo Perez, and for the playoffs we might find Willie Harris's speed to be of greater value.

Ibanez would be a very useful addition, who could also be used as a role player next year.
