Win or Die Trying

Okay, so the Sox have lost a few games in a row. This has dropped their record to a MISERABLE 74-45 and their divisional lead to a MICROSCOPIC 9.5 games. This, of course, is more than just cause to panic, so I don't blame you for doing so, but I think that as a whole, we should have a little more confidence in a team that until recently owned baseball's best record for about 3 1/2 months straight.

Fair enough, but I've seen similar posts for about the last 3 days. At what point do the Sox suck it up, and compete harder on the field? There's no doubt in my mind we tried to coast the rest of the way, but this week proved we're not good enough to do that. I'm just sick of hearing things like "it's our first 4 game losing streak, big deal". The problem is, there's no guarantee that it's only going to be a 4 game losing streak, etc. The reason we're losing is because our offense is awful. That's the type of thing which can put you into a prolonged slump. With our schedule, a 10 game losing streak is very possible.

I don't agree with that.

Unfortunately, I agree with that.

I have little confidence on a team that can bat .230 as a team for the better part of a month.

Plus a week ago we had a big 16.5 game lead on the twins and 15.5 on the injuns. BUT THERE IS NO WAY WE CAN GIVE UP 9 GAMES IN THE NEXT TWO MONTHS, THE 6 GAMES WAS JUST A MIRAGE

Great pitching, meathead hitters who swing at s***.

Like I said in the game thread. Get em some golf clubs and let em swing at that s*** in the dirt with them. At least then they have a prayer of making contact.

My main problem with this team, is I DON'T SEE THEM GETTING ANY BETTER THAN THIS!! Their offense is just woeful. I was at the game last night, and when the Yanks scored their 2nd and 3rd runs, I look at my buddy and said, "that's it, we lost." He and I both knew that the White Sox were not going to score another run.

I love how Mussina and Santana can be having off-years, but the minute we face them, they are on... Santana is striking out 1- plus again. I think it's safe to say we have one of the worst offenses in the league, and I don't see it getting better.

the sox are trying to hit. Probably trying too hard. Instead of going up there loose, they are going up there tight. That's not the approach that got them to 1st place. The more they press, the more they struggle. When they go back to the relaxed approach, trying just to make contact, move runners over, a few bunt, infield hits, they'll be fine. Right now, the sox hitters seem to be gripping and ripping, everyone trying to win the game in each at bat. That approach will get them more of the same--K's and weak, easy outs. No one wants to go deep into a count, afraid they'll get a called 3rd strike. The sox need to make the pitchers work more, work some walks to get runners on.

When things were going right for them, they were able to hit the ball where and when they wanted. Some will say it's clutch hitting. It's making contact, hitting while the body is relaxed and loose.

I'm not particularly worried. Not everyone can slump at the same time for extended stretches like it has been for the last few weeks.
