palesox38
Up until today, I wanted the sox to play the Angels in the first round, but now I realize it would be much better if we faced Oakland. Think about it, if we beat them, can you imagine what it would do for the teams confidence in the ALCS? They would feel like they could beat anyone and maybe run away with the pennant. Even though they are in such a slump, I couldn't help but think about what could happen if we face the A's. Plus, by then I think the offense will be okay with Podsednik back in the lineup. Also, the playoffs are so different from the regular season that it really doesn't matter who faces who. I read an article the other day saying how (I can't remember the specific teams) there was a team in the 90's who went 1-10 against a division foe, but in the first round they beat up on them. so anyway, all I'm saying is maybe Oakland is just what the Sox need in the first round. Since when did we clinch a playoff spot? I guess it's also time to start talking about which one of our pitchers gets the CY Young and what our starting rotation will be in round one. Might as well talk about Ozzie's Manager of the Year Award. Sorry...I'm just way too frustrated and disgusted at this team to be thinking about playoff matchups. There is no guarantee that we will even make it....no matter what all the optimists say on this board. It's not even September yet and our lead is already down to 8.5 games. Milkman delivers
QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Aug 20, 2005 -> 04:51 PM) No, but his imminent return will give the organization, people on this board, and Hawk a reason to feel good about standing pat for the waiver deadline. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Aug 20, 2005 -> 04:55 PM) Yes, I am already prepared for the "if you look at it, we added Scott Podsednik at the deadline" speech come September 1. There is no guarantee that he will be 100% healthy, and last Sept. with MIL, he stole 18 bases, but hit .228. I am also concerned about the continuing back problems the Sox seem to be having. I wonder if its just coincidence a lot of these guys are having problems with their backs, or if there is a flaw in the training program. I understand what your saying, but the way I look at it is, even with the skid, we could be in a much worst spot, 8.5 games is a comfortable lead. If you think about it we could be in the east or west when we definitely could not afford to have skids like this. We are still 29 games over .500 and have the second best record in the MLB and the best record in the AL. It also felt pretty good to get my mind off of the slump and think about the playoffs. Steve9347
If the White Sox play one more week like they just did, its going to be a 3 game lead. Holy s***, we might just f***ing blow this thing.

Our pitching has continued to be rock solid, but our offense has been woefull... like, record-books bad, over the last month. If you had actually seen some of these games, maybe you would realize how much it sucks to be at the game, and when the White Sox are down 3-1 in the fourth inning, that game is already over. Yes, I'm happy we're in first, but guess what... a hot start to the season does not a whole season make... as much as you want it to.
