Colorado Sox Fan
Seems everyone wants to blame Timo for the Sox slide. But Dye has done nothing for weeks. This is a guy who should be driving in runs.
fathom
Dye basically carried this offense for two months. Now, he's slumping majorly again like he did to start the season. Part of the reason it would have been great to acquire another OF/DH was to be able to sit Dye, or any other outfielder, more when they're slumping. What's Ozzie going to do now, bench Dye for Anderson?
fathom
BTW, I don't think people blame Timo personally. Rather, many of us feel Timo is representative of the complacency that happened with this team about a month ago. Also, Timo is representative of the cluelessness that is Ozzie Guillen's in-game managing.
Colorado Sox Fan
He carried us for two months? I don't remember that. I remember a lot of solo home runs. Just seems like he's faded. Great catch last night, though.
DBAHO
QUOTE(Colorado Sox Fan @ Aug 24, 2005 -> 10:24 PM) He carried us for two months? I don't remember that. I remember a lot of solo home runs. Just seems like he's faded. Great catch last night, though. It's hard to hate on a guy when he has 22 HR's, and a SLG of .474. Yeah he's streaky as hell, as fathom said, but I'm banking on the fact he'll finish up strong like the rest of the offense, because there's no way they can be as bad as they are now. Of course something to consider, Dye spurned a larger offer from Texas. They signed Richard Hidalgo. Let's just say he won't be back with them next season. Iguchi's in a big slump also right now, and his execution at the plate has rivaled Crede for being the worst on the team over the last few weeks. Punch and Judy Garland
It's time to give Brian Anderson a look now. I think that both the notions that Dye "carried us" and given us a pass are both incorrect really. He was called Jermaine Dead for a long time and he got better but it wasn't like he played THAT great. The issues with this offense are plentiful, to the point that finding a scapegoat like Dye doesn't accomplish much.

Of course, that was when he wasn't trying to pull every pitch. I wouldn't be against giving another hitter a chance in this lineup, but Anderson's swing is too long to contribute at this level now. For example, the reason we lost last night was Timo pinch hit for Iguchi in the 9th. That's a complaint about Ozzie's choices, not about Timo. We all realize that Timo can't help it that he's terrible. Seriously, noone's blaming Timo for this slide. He's just a bench player, we all get that. The Critic
QUOTE(Colorado Sox Fan @ Aug 24, 2005 -> 08:28 AM) Really? I must not have been paying attention. I've seen a lot about Crede, Timo, Paulie, but don't remember seeing much on Dye. I'll take your work for it. Oh yeah, there was a lot of Jermaine Dead, Jermaine Dyed, Princess Dye, all that stuff. But Cruddy/Crediocre and the infamous Judy still carry a higher lifetime bash average than Dye or any other current Sox player.
