I dont understand how this is a debate, even about who is the best pitcher etc.  Its a simple numbers game.

MB-2.99 1.16

JG- 3.28 1.16

FG- 3.54 1.23

Thats the order of the first three starters, and it should not be altered.  Those are your three best pitchers in order.  AS far as the 4th game, that is the only debate.  I would go for the count because his stats are better, but El Duque may step it up in the playoffs, but for now, the top three are set.

i wouldnt mind seeing freddy in game 2, simply because hes been there before and he will probably be pitching in the day. even with garlands exceptional year this year, i still am a little more leary when he is on the mound, at least more so than freddy

It depends on the opponent, and on how these guys finish up. I don't think Buerhle should be pitching game 1 if they are playing Oakland. 1993, McDowell started Gm 1, and he did win the Cy that year, but at the time both Alvarez and Bere were pitching much better than him. Ozzie remembers.

Nope, not if we are at home. Garland is good at home, and freddy isnt.

i agree with the ride the hot hand strategy too. especially when no single guy is THAT much better than the others. what is beautiful about this rotation in october is if someone gets in trouble in say the 4th inning, you can bring in a guy who has the ability to dominate in contreras, or a guy who is one of the best postseason pitchers in the history of the most storied franchise in duque, depending on who is being saved for game 4. add in teh fact that jenks is proving to be effective for more than one inning, and if one guy even starts to look like he will struggle, we have some troops in reserve

It's really too damn early to make this call. Who's hot? Who's not? Who are we playing? How do the pitchers match up against the opponent? Then, after you've answered these questions, you consider day game vs. night game, home vs. away. Hopefully, we will have the luxury of setting up the rotation prior to the playoffs.

I think Mark Buehrle is a damn good pitcher and he seems like one helluva good guy, but if he's not the best choice at the time, then you go with somebody else. All that matters is postseason success. If Mark pitches game 3 or 4, and gets a champagne shower and ring when it's all said and done, I don't think he'll be complaining about where he is slotted in the post season rotation.

It must be me, by no way would I consider starting Duque early in the playoffs if we make it. Even during his best outings, he's still allowing 3 or 4 runs. I'll trust the big three, and I don't see why we'd have to start Duque over Contreras. Duque could be better off as a righty specialist in the bullpen. Many of the potential playoff teams have a lot of lefty hitters, and Duque struggles with his command vs lefties.

If they keep pitching the way they have been, I don't care how Ozzie stacks his rotation. Hopefully there are no more losing streaks the rest of the way. The hits will start to fall in. After the last couple of weeks I notice the color is starting to return to my face and the knot in my stomach is almost gone. The performance of our starting pitchers kept me almost rational. I look forward to seeing them at the top of their game in October. Every single one of them has come up big as the rest of the team struggled recently.
