The Ginger Kid
"We no longer care about people who doubt us," Konerko said. "We haven't all year. You're either with us or you're not. There's people jumping on and off the bandwagon, but from now on when you're off, there's no getting back on." I'm on Paulie, I'm on! Promise! Man, I love seeing this guy get fired up. He's really become quite a leader on the team. Nice to see. He also gave mad props to Blum for yesterday's win, which is very nice.

Harry Chappas
Did anyone hear any booing last weekend when 110K showed up to watch them play the Yanks. How about the over 100K that showed up to see them take a s*** against the Twins. I am offended by these quotes actually as the last I could see we were coming out in droves spending dough and they were not really looking to good (7-18 at home in the last 25?). Call me a bandwagon jumper if you will but I am not going to sit with the rose colored glasses on. If he is reading these boards, he needs a new hobby. Sorry. BigSqwert
Maybe this is Paulie's way of getting the bandwagon people to stay home. The team seems to play better when the park is half full.

Texsox
Those bandwagon jumpers are the exact fans that Brooks and Co. are working so hard to get out to the park and spend some of their entertainment dollars on the Sox. We have the hard core fans, teh difference between the two teams is the "entertainment fans" who decide if they are going to see a movie, go to a Sox game, or visit friends in Alsip. Harry Chappas
QUOTE(Steff @ Aug 26, 2005 -> 12:06 PM) Yea. Both Friday and Saturday as a matter of fact. Did I mess up your point...? I didn't so I just must've had my selevctive hearing on. My point was that there seems to be this uprising against anyone that questions the ability of this team. The people on this board are going to fly off the handle, I do, that is why we come hear sometimes. Last Friday I paid for my playoff tickets so although I was not happy with what was going on and said so here, I am not a bandwagon fan nor to I feel I need to act like I do not have issues with this team. My point is they need to address the situation at the park not on some message board. When there are 15K out there boing them, he has a point. If he is reading this board or any other and guaging that as the fan base, I think he is mistaken.

Dick Allen
So they no longer care about the people who doubt them. Nice. Is there anyone on this board that doesn't have some doubt they won't be able to go all the way? I know taking 2 out of 3 against a depleted Minnesota team got rid of some of the jiitters, but c'mon. Konerko needs to start concentrating on driving runners home who are in scoring position with less than 2 out, and maybe continue playing baseball when the umpire rules the ball fair. He already tried playing GM saying they don't want any reinforcements, then goes and compliments a reinforcement on yesterday's win. Now if you doubt them, he doesn't want you. Sorry, when you are supporting a team that hasn't done squat in 88 years, doubt becomes a large part of the equation. On the other hand, maybe they really don't want the doubters. They seem to play better in front of a bunch of empty blue seats. When they play as bad as they played the previous 2 weeks, I believe Mark Buerhle even questioned the effort, they deserve to get booed. If Konerko doesn't like it, he can go find another job his high school diploma will allow him to do.
Milkman delivers
Maybe Pauly should take this "passion" and put it to better use, instead of something like this or throwing his bat at the ground in disgust as he grounds or flies out twice a game. That's true, but I think it's a stretch to suggest a player's passion for his team is counter productive to marketing strategy. If anything, Kong's remarks add more character to the team and credence to his leadership, both positives in the grand scheme. Sidebar: If Brooks and Co. are looking to attract fans, they might want to try a different ad campaign. "Win or die trying" when the country's fighting a war seems rather inappropriate and not very well thought out.
Kenkait Sox Fan
I wholeheatedly agree that we should be able to question the ability of this team until they go out and prove themselves in actually winning a playoff series. This team has flaws and KW should try to do something to address these flaws so fans won't "jump on or off the bandwagon". It has bee too long without a winner on the South side. LosMediasBlancas
People will jump on and off bandwagons for every team in every sport, including the Sox. That's just fans in general. WTF is Konerko gonna do about it? Instead of trying to tell the fans what to do, how about putting that piano down before you run the bases Paul? Or hitting more meaningful, clutch HRs or RBIs. We're all (most?) die-hard Sox fans, so what people are implying that it means wouldn't even apply to us since we've been supporting the team before the recent success anyways. Soxbadger
Konerko is right. The people with the most negative things to say about the Sox, are generally the people that have been on the bandwagon the smallest amount of time. The Sox are in first place, yet it seems like 90% of the posts are dedicated to how bad they suck. And these are not long time posters who I have watched post here, these generally seem like people who have been here for less than a season. ::Shrugs:: If I was Konerko, and I was on a first place team, I would say f*** off to all the b**** bandwagon fans out there as well. Its one thing to jump on a winner and be positive, its quite another to jump on the bandwagon, then pretend you are a real fan and b**** all day long. Those are the fans that we do not need, and I stand behind Konerko 100%. If you want to be a bandwagon fan, that is cool. Have fun, enjoy the ride. If you are a pretend fan, and just want to bash the Sox and be the guy that: A) If they win was always a huge supporter or B) If they lose always told us so. Go watch the Cubs. Seriously, its fun to have the park filled. Its nice that we are getting the media attention, but I miss the days when the White Sox were "insert amount of games out" and all the posts were about how we can pull this out, how we can improve, or how only a few things need to go our way and we are right in the picture. Ribbie is right. Everyone of you that b****es about what Konerko says is just proving his point. Who cares how badly the Sox have played for a month? This is the team that we have, and it is most likely the team we are going to go to the dance with. So either you can support them, or you can just go find another team to watch. Thanks Konerko for actually keeping the real White Sox fans in mind. Cause for every complainer, there are about 5 real fans who are just sick and tired of this constant whining bulls***. Texsox
QUOTE(SleepyWhiteSox @ Aug 26, 2005 -> 01:43 PM) A die-hard Sox fan doesn't go around jumping on and off at the slightest hint of adversity, in my opinion... But that's my point. Anyone care to guess the ratio of die hard fans to casual fans at the ballpark? We call them bandwagon jumpers, but just as likely they are people who are going to a MLB game and choose between the Cubs and Sox for the experience. They could give a rip about loyalty. That's one reason we get crushed in the attendance battle. It isn't the hard core fans, it's the let's go to a game this year fan who the battle is for. When 33,000 walk through the turnstyle, the same 5,000 hard core fans are there as when the team draws 11,000. The other 28,000 are there for the experience. That's why Dog Days, Elvis Night, Million Mullet March, and Fireworks are so popular. Viva la Bandwagon Jumpers!! Here let me give you a hand getting on. Here's your cap, your foam finger, and don't forget to log on to soxtalk.com Enjoy the ride, leave with your wallet empty.
