Great Konerko Quote

Texsox,

I have no problem with bandwagon jumpers in general. If they want to start supporting the Sox, thats cool with me.

I have a problem with bandwagon jumpers who act like they have been here forever and only post negative comments.

The latter is what Konerko is getting upset with.

I enjoyed Tuesday's game and was not negative about the loss. The Minnesota series last weekend and the Yankees first two games were sickening. A bandwagon fan could care less how they are playing as long as they are enjoying themselves. Most of them know little about the team and the situation they just back a winner and enjoy the ride. I really see nothing wrong with that, they put $$$ into the team.

Sorry if I can not bring myself to watch this team look foolish at the plate and do nothing to correct it. I can not watch a guy go 5 for 55 (or thereabouts) three times a year and wonder if maybe something should be changed.

I just want to win and I know they do but if I have to sit around with a smile on my face like a cub fan sorry I can't do it.

Konerko is right.

The people with the most negative things to say about the Sox, are generally the people that have been on the bandwagon the smallest amount of time.

The Sox are in first place, yet it seems like 90% of the posts are dedicated to how bad they suck. And these are not long time posters who I have watched post here, these generally seem like people who have been here for less than a season.

::Shrugs::

If I was Konerko, and I was on a first place team, I would say f*** off to all the b**** bandwagon fans out there as well. Its one thing to jump on a winner and be positive, its quite another to jump on the bandwagon, then pretend you are a real fan and b**** all day long.

Those are the fans that we do not need, and I stand behind Konerko 100%.

If you want to be a bandwagon fan, that is cool. Have fun, enjoy the ride. If you are a pretend fan, and just want to bash the Sox and be the guy that:

A) If they win was always a huge supporter

or

B) If they lose always told us so.

Go watch the Cubs.

Seriously, its fun to have the park filled. Its nice that we are getting the media attention, but I miss the days when the White Sox were "insert amount of games out" and all the posts were about how we can pull this out, how we can improve, or how only a few things need to go our way and we are right in the picture.

Ribbie is right.

Everyone of you that b****es about what Konerko says is just proving his point.

Who cares how badly the Sox have played for a month?

This is the team that we have, and it is most likely the team we are going to go to the dance with. So either you can support them, or you can just go find another team to watch.

Thanks Konerko for actually keeping the real White Sox fans in mind. Cause for every complainer, there are about 5 real fans who are just sick and tired of this constant whining bulls***.

I think it's pretty well-known that most White Sox fans are pessimistic. But you must be right.

"We no longer care about people who doubt us," Konerko said. "We haven't all year. You're either with us or you're not. There's people jumping on and off the bandwagon, but from now on when you're off, there's no getting back on."

I'm on Paulie, I'm on! Promise!

Man, I love seeing this guy get fired up. He's really become quite a leader on the team. Nice to see. He also gave mad props to Blum for yesterday's win, which is very nice.

:cheers

no longer care? that would imply that at one time they did.

Shut your mouth and play ball, Paulie.

I cringe everytime this guys talks to the press.

I wish that was my post. I don't need any lectures from him about loyalty. Anyone who can't see this team has some serious deficiencies is not being realistic. Anyone who watched them in August and voiced some doubts and worries is not disloyal or a bandwagon jumper. In the watered down state of baseball, other teams have problems too. Even the Cardinals who are stacked are going to miss Scott Rolen. In the current state of baseball the Sox can prevail in October, but that doesn't change the fact that they have weaknesses. Get more hits and do less interviews Paul.

Where is Paul Konerko hosting these sessions of fans blasting the team. I pointed out earlier there were over 200K at the last homestand that I did not hear booing. This is where you get your census from. Geez, Guillen was embarrassed for his team last Saturday, was he on teh bandwagon? I just do not see the audience that Paul is talking about. In 2000 when they were winning they only had 20K out there.

You mean you don't want to hear about loyalty from the guy that's going to sign the biggest, fattest contract he can get in the offseason when he said he'd give the Sox a home town discount?

I'll believe that he's willing to take the home town discount when I see him sign on the dotted line. Until then, I think he'll go to the highest bidder, and end up playing on the east coast.

Konerko can take this quote and shove it. Any true sox fan can doubt this team if they want. They can also boo. It doesn't mean we're off the bandwagon. First of all, all true Sox fans aren't on any sort of bandwagon. We're core fans and you shouldn't be talking about these bandwagon crap.

Second of all, quit playing like crap and you won't get booed or doubted. We have every right to doubt you or talk negatively about you when we have put higher expectations on you than to just win the division. Konerko, you and your teammates put those expectations on yourselves. When you start playing like crap, you are going to get talked about. We're not going to pretend everything is nice and dandy and say "go white sox" when you lose 7 straight. The expectations are higher, so deal with it. Quit being such a baby.

"We no longer care about people who doubt us," Konerko said. "We haven't all year. You're either with us or you're not. There's people jumping on and off the bandwagon, but from now on when you're off, there's no getting back on."

Where is this quote from? I'd like to hear the whole conversation or interview or whatever. Cause it seems cut short here.

Paulie doesn't seem the type of player to say fans don't have the right to boo. He gets down harder on himself then anyone...I can't see him knocking fans that get down on him when he is struggling.

I think this was just a team quote...kinda like 'hey we believe in ourselves and we don't care who doesn't' What should he say "Yeah when people question us...it kinda gets in our heads and we start doubting ourselves too" Then people can b**** about that quote. GMAFB people!! I mean he's just saying in that clubhouse...they believe in themselves....regardless of what is going on outside of it.

I don't think he was singling out badwagon fans anyway. He was more than likely talking about the media and they're flip-flopping. 'this team is playing over their heads' - 'this team is not this good' - 'the sox are for real' - 'sox might win division' 'sox need a player to win it' - 'sox are coming down to earth' - 'sox are dropping fast' - 'sox will win divsion again'

I mean there was so much BS the beginning of the year when the sox were winning about how they're not that good. Then they finally got some ackowledgement. Then they lost 7 in a row and the media was back on with an 'I told ya so' attitude.

I just wish he would highlight us die-hards more.  The bandwagoners are the Cub fans & the Chicago fans who aren't really baseball fans but just want to ride the wave.

Die-hards will always remain Sox fans & cheer them on.  Win or Lose.

But it doesn't mean we can't boo or be doubtful or talk negatively. Of course we want them to win every damn game. But we aren't going to cheer blindly.

Correct. That would be Cub fans.

Then maybe he shouldn't have said anything about jumping on/off the wagon..  :huh

He never says "fans". The media could be what he's talking about.

I think the fans have every right to be disappointed in a team, especially when they've been playing as poorly as they have been the last 2 weeks. If you don't care when they lose that doesn't make you a die-hard fan, that's what makes the winning even sweeter.

But Paulie does need to learn to watch what he says because it could very easily be taken out of context. He shouldn't even be talking about this anyway considering he's our "big bat" and our hitting is what has failed us during this slump. If Buehrle or Garland had said this I don't think anyone would have a problem with it because they have carried us all year.

Maybe it's just me, but some people are blowing this comment way out of proportion. What's PK going to say....I love bandwagon jumpers, hop on board? PK is our best offensive player...he can say whatever the hell he wants as long as he produces. I bet Illini fans had no problems with Weber as their coach, even though he said some pretty stupid things.

I'm not saying you don't have a right to boo. As a fan you do. But what do you hope to accomplish by doing it? Positive reinforcement has been proven to be a better psychological tool to getting the best out of people.

Booing a player on your team has never made any sense to me. Booing players on the other team makes all the sense in the world. So I would say the best time to express your boos is when the other team takes the field prior to your team coming to bat.

That's when you should express all your frustration that your team is losing.

When your team finally comes to bat, if they do nothing say nothing. If they get on cheer loudly.

That's what I do. I also throw a <opposing team> sucks in there as well to make sure my team knows I'm booing the fact the visitors are beating us. ;)

Yeah, and i'm gonna rip him a new one for costing us the tying run yesterday.

Paul just needs to shut up, he's obviously pissed off enough fans, whether they be bandwagoners or hard core.

Technically.. neither did I. :P

Media... you think he's referring to the media..?

IF this is the quote (I haven't seen it in print yet).. I really doubt he's talking about the media...

"We no longer care about people who doubt us," Konerko said. "We haven't all year. You're either with us or you're not. There's people jumping on and off the bandwagon, but from now on when you're off, there's no getting back on."

And if he is... he needs a smack upsde the head. The media has been ignoring the Sox all year.. hardly bandwagon jumping.

That's the thing....if there's anything we should be critcizing PK for today, it's that he almost cost us a critical game because he flat our dropped a line drive, and then dropped the cutoff throw because he had lost his composure.
