Texsox
PHOENIX - Great views — and plenty of goosebumps for those afraid of heights. An American Indian tribe with land along the Grand Canyon is planning to build a glass-bottomed walkway that will jut out 70 feet from the canyon's edge. The horseshoe-shaped skywalk, expected to open in January, is part of the Hualapai Tribe's $40 million effort to turn 1,000 acres of reservation land into a tourist destination that will also feature an Indian village and Western-themed town. The tribe's reservation is some 200 miles by road to the west of the section of the Grand Canyon National Park that most tourists visit. The walkway, with a glass bottom and sides, will be supported by steel beams and will accommodate 120 people, though it is designed to hold 72 million pounds, said Sheri Yellowhawk, chief executive officer of the Grand Canyon Resort Corp., the tribal-owned company that is overseeing the project. "You're basically looking 4,000 feet down. It's a whole new way to experience the Grand Canyon," Yellowhawk said. Admission will be $25. The project is still seeking an insurer, said architect David Jin, who said he came up with the skywalk idea while visiting the canyon in 1996. Kind of reminds me of the House on the Rock in the Dells.
DBAHO
Well considering about 8 to 12 people die there a year from utter stupidity, at least it's safe. Looks really nice, but about 6 months too late for me. One of the most beautiful places in the world I've ever seen though without a doubt. I'm guessing if the Grand Canyon was in Australia, it would have bungee jumping
Milkman delivers
Hell yeah, I'd do it. Besides, it looks like something from Star Wars.
FlaSoxxJim
I'd do it simply because I could pretend I was Wyle E. Cyote looking down to the bottom of the canyon after he runs out of road and right before he holds up the sign that says 'Gulp!' and starts to fall. The Critic
I'd like to think I'd take that walk, but I know what a complete pussy I am about heights, so I probably wouldn't do it. I KNOW my wife would, though - she's flown a plane, parasailed, bungeed, loves roller coasters, all that s***.

JUGGERNAUT
They do that, I'm there. That would be an experience unlike any other. I'd be psyched. I think most of the family would as well. Might be some resistance on the $25 ppc. Maybe I can convince them to throw a meal in there for that price.
southsider2k5
On our honeymoon when we were in Toronto we went up to the top of the CN Tower. My wife is deathly afraid of heights and barely moved away from the elevator. Me I have no brains so the section where it is glass bottomed and 1300 feet in the air, I was jumping up and down on it. I'd definately do this.
