He'd be more valuable than Adkins as a late inning defensive replacemet or pinch runner. Adkins more than likely will not be used in the playoffs.

I understand your point but we don't know how Ozzie will manage in the playoffs, he's never been there before.

He was on the staff of the 03 Marlins and Jack McKeon was unafraid to blow through his entire bullpen night after night. If Oz uses his main guys as 'situationals' he could easily get down to one or two arms, even counting Contreras in the pen. Atkins on the roster would be one more move Ozzie could make -might not put him in the game but to use up someone else knowing Jon is available in case the game goes long.

You can debate whether the last man should be Atkins or another arm but I would lean to carrying an extra pitcher instead of an extra position player.

I would guess that even if Brian is "sent" down, he'd stick around until Thursday, so the fact that he flew to Texas doesn't seem significant to me.

Charlotte's season doesn't end until Sept. 5, but why bother going back there for a couple of games. Hawk made a pretty good point yesterday regarding call-ups. Many veterans don't want many around. They make the planes and clubhouse a little more crowded, they cut into their first place money shares, etc.

Just throwing this out there from the Suntimes:

Here is the whole article.

And Crede may go on the DL;

The White Sox have been patient with Joe Crede's finger injury, but their patience may run out today, when the team probably will make a decision on whether or not it will place the third baseman on the disabled list.

Crede, who suffered a hairline fracture in the middle finger of his right hand last Wednesday, still was not able to play Sunday.

This morning, the Sox will announce outfielder Scott Podsednik has been activated off the disabled list after a rehabilitation stint at Triple-A Charlotte. With Podsednik back in the mix, the Sox will have to make a roster move before tonight's game at Texas.

If Crede can't play, he probably will be placed on the 15-day disabled list. The Sox also have the option of sending rookie outfielder Brian Anderson back to Triple-A Charlotte when they activate Podsednik.

But considering the Sox have a doubleheader against the Rangers on Tuesday and no off days until Sept. 12, Sox manager Ozzie Guillen said he probably can't afford to play a man down. Guillen isn't keen on the idea of trying to gut things out until the Sox add more bodies via call-ups when the roster can be expanded in September.
