Six-man rotation

yes...save some innings on buerhle and company. the innings have seemed to catch up to mark a little bit and possibly jon g. it is a luxury to have at this point in the season and we should exploit it. any contender in the AL would take any of our starters except maybe Oakland and the Angels.

I can see that I am the first to go against it here in this post. :) Well, my main reason is that they will be more rested but they will not be sharp as they were and it will be harder for them to adjust to the 3 man rotation that is usually used in the playoffs, especailly for the first round. I can see your guys points though and I made mine.

The only drawback to this is the personal goals(Cy Young, 20wins). Outside of that the only other thing is the routine.

From a playoff standpoint, resting our starters probably would be helpful. Its no coincidence that our starters have been dropping off in August a bit, showing a bit of tired arm after all the innings they have been chunking through. A 6 man rotation would save the bullpen and possibly some of our starters for the playoff push.

And how do we know McCarthy will always keep us in games?  He has the ability, but not the experience.  Could we afford to possibly throw away every sixth game?

Its not like our top 3 rocked the last 3 games. It may help a lot to give them some rest. This is also why we keep a 12 man staff. Brandon could work well 2/3 times and our staff can pick up the rest.

Watch the replay if they show it late-night?

Seriously though, if he can't do it after a couple of starts, it reverts to the 5-man rotation. Easy is that. It's just nice to have options, and the team is in a posititon to do so.

Yep, and the time before, our big 3 were dominating.

I don't think that is a fair statement. We would not be "throwing away" games. In 04 we threw away games with our 5th starter spot. Bmac >> Munoz, 04 Cotts, Diaz ect

I said "could" and "possibly" just to represent the point that it's not beyond belief.

Hmmm, the more I think about I'm 50/50. MB, JG & FG would need a large amount of input. The only person that I think would definitely benefit from this is the playoff stud, the Duke. Alternating BMac and El Duque near the end of the season to get him some days off may not be a bad idea.

First of all, this topic is hilarious because of who started it. 6 hours ago, BMac was a washed up loser, now you want him in the rotation?

Second, if it was up to me, I would have McCarthy piggy back El Duque/count. They pitch on back to back games, and are prone to short outings. This keeps Brandon on a semi-regular schedule, and can help lighten the load on an arm that we want to protect down the stretch in Duque.

If one of them is struggling, Ozzie should be ready with a quick hook to keep us in the game. This could win us a couple extra games down the stretch. (It's pretty obvious when either of those two guys just doesn't have it.) Just pull 'em early and hopefully BMac can eat some innings to give the offense time to get back in it. You're not really taxing the bullpen, cuz Bmac is just like a 6th starter, and Baj will be back up in a few days anyway.

I really dont mind whatevr we do. Its good because it will give our guys a chance to rest their arms be fresh for the playoffs but at the same time if they dont want it dont make them unhappy.

Although I bet you even though he could use it the most that El Duque was one of those guys that said he wouldnt like it, Im also guessing Freddy G is one 2 but he loves Ozzie to much to throw a hissy fit :P .
