WilliamTell
QUOTE(bighurt2719 @ Sep 8, 2005 -> 07:17 AM) are you a sox fan? bottom line, he is on the cubs payroll...hence, NO LOVE. So just because he's on the Cubs means I can't root for him getting 15 wins? Who cares, the Cubs aren't gonna make the playoffs. Just because you don't like him doesn't mean I can't like him. WilliamTell
QUOTE(bmags @ Sep 8, 2005 -> 11:46 AM) it keeps a magnificent streak alive, i doubt i'll see a pitcher as consistent for as many years as this guy for a long long time. I don't feel threatened by a cubs pitcher maintaining a record that the majority of happened in another uniform. Who cares if the cubs win anymore...its like getting mad if the twins win at this point. Exactly, when he goes to the Hall of Fame, he'll be an Atlanta Brave too. Yes he had a couple of good years in Chicago before, but his biggest accomplishments came with the Braves.
RockRaines
QUOTE(Jenks Heat @ Sep 8, 2005 -> 09:35 AM) $9M for a guy that wins 15 games a year sounds right. ERA-4.28 WHIP-1.24 SO-116 BAA-.276 does that sound like 9 million? Because his stats are just slightly better than El Duque. Thats pretty expensive for a 5th starter. I rooted for the Twins last year in the playoffs, and they are by far our biggest rivals. Does that not make me a fan too? Why not root for Maddux to reach 15 wins? It's baseball f***in immortality...you always cheer for that(unless the guy comes off as a huge, egotistical asshole most of the time, like Barry Bonds). Cubs fans don't care about the Sox...so why are Sox fans so concerned with the Cubs, especially this season?
Kalapse
QUOTE(RockRaines @ Sep 8, 2005 -> 02:10 PM) ERA-4.28 WHIP-1.24 SO-116 BAA-.276 does that sound like 9 million? Because his stats are just slightly better than El Duque. Thats pretty expensive for a 5th starter. Maybe he's taking the Hawk approach on this one, give me a pitcher who knows how to win a game, throw out his ERA and all that other junk, just give me a pitcher who knows how to win. This is a very dumb point of view and is the recipe for putting together a s***ty rotation. Russ Ortiz is the #1 poster child for this philosophy. According to those who go by this mind set he would be your #1 pitcher in their rotation.
Kalapse
QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Sep 8, 2005 -> 02:19 PM) Cubs fans don't care about the Sox...so why are Sox fans so concerned with the Cubs, especially this season? This is a very incorrect statement. Just about ever Cub fan I know is obsessed with seeing the White Sox fail. For some reason a lot of Sox fans tell themselves Cub fans don't care about the Sox yet that is not the case.

That has a little to do with Maddux's great control/getting pitches 4 inches off the plate though as well. And to play along...you want an all win-type rotation...let's whip something up here... Kenny Rogers Russ Ortiz Greg Maddux Mike Mussina Tim Wakefield Best rotation ever, no?
Jordan4life_2007
I'm with Wite. As long as the Cubs blow as a team, I could care less what individual accomplishments they achieve.

Wins are BS, just look at Clemens this year. Maddux is an overpaid 5th starter who is losing his stuff as the innings roll by. Next year, 40 hr's, mark it. The Bones
Back to the original topic of this thread, which would mean a lot more if best overall record in baseball was for Home Field Advantage in the WS which is how it should be determined. Honestly, the All-Star Game can't be taken seriously if you have the fans voting and you need a representative from every team. The managers still try to get as many players in as they can. It's more of an event than a game. If baseball did the right thing and made records determine home field it would give us another thing to watch for down the stretch.
