DBAHO
Some keys for the Panthers if they want to beat the Bears; Thomas Jones can't get over 100 yards rushing. Jones is kind of like Tiki Barber's importance to the Giants. If you can stop him and the Bears running game, then it puts the Bears in a lot more passing situations. They've got to get another receiver going other than Steve Smith. Smith's going to get his 7-10 catches. That's a given, he's just too good. But last time they played, and he did better than that, it didn't matter. The Panthers need a Drew Carter, a Keary Colbert, a Kris Magnum or Ricky Proehl to stand up and be counted. The Panthers O-Line. Probably the biggest key for them. I think it's actually quite underrated. Gross and Wahle are pro - bowlers, while guys like Mitchell have also done a pretty good job. If the Bears get 5 sacks or over though, I don't like Carolina's chances.

I would also add that Carolina's two defensive ends in Peppers and Rutgers have to be more of a factor. They did nothing last time we faced them. I would also add that Carolina's two defensive ends in Peppers and Rutgers have to be more of a factor. They did nothing last time we faced them. Tait and Miller vs. Peppers and Rucker should be a fine matchup. Peppers has just been DOMINATING over the past few weeks. Even if the Bears have to put in a TE in there to help block him, they should do so, if need be.
Dam8610
Wow, that spread for the Colts game is pretty big. Then again, I thought the spread for the Jags-Pats game was too big.
LosMediasBlancas
QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Jan 9, 2006 -> 02:38 AM) ?? Are you implying that Carolina is going to beat us?? Never underestimate the revenge factor and that momentum tends to swing back and forth. On paper, I think the Bears SHOULD win, but I won't be shocked if they don't

When he goes for 100, they are successful. He has to look like he did againts ATL and NYG for them to win. Also, although Smith did get 14 for something like 160 last time, only a couple of those catches he had significant YAC. If the Bears continue the philosophy of single covering him, they better make sure they tackle him on the first try, or they will be in for a long day. That said, Go Panthers! WilliamTell
Dan Patrick just had an interesting stat. This past playoff week there were 4 first time starters in a playoff game: Eli Manning, Carson Palmer, Chris Simms, and Byron Leftwich. The combined record for them is 0-4. I know Palmer only threw 1 pass so but still that's pretty interesting. Rex Grossman will start his first playoff game against the Panthers, can't wait for next weekend. Great matchups all around. Spiff
What is funny is that the first game was much closer than people are making it sound. Now, give the Bears those same offensive numbers...except back 1 of the safeties off of the line because they have to guard against the deep pass, and add in another 30+ passing yards for the Bears anyway just based on their QB making better decisions, and what would happen? That game was close because the Bears had a QB who got 122 yards out of his urnning backs but could only convert 3-13 on 3rd down and only threw for 136 yards. When you have a working running game you should be able to do a lot better than that as a QB, especially on 3rd down (which should, if the run is working, be mostly short). DukeNukeEm
Theres not much to talk about when it comes to this game. Bears won earlier this year, maintain that defense gameplan (the Panthers havent changed thier identity at all) and adjust the offensive gameplan to open up the field a lot more. Key to the game is Tommie Harris. He shuts down the run, we win.

The Packers are about to name 49ers offensive coordinator Mike McCarthy, their new head coach. I wonder if Favre retires, stays in GB, or goes elsewhere now. Apparently, his agent was saying that if they really wanted Favre to come back, they'd hire Mariucci.

Key to the game is Tommie Harris. He shuts down the run, we win. When it comes to stopping the run I'd say Ian Scott is more important than Tommie Harris. Harris has proven to be a very good pass rusher but I'd say right now Scott is the bigger body and is used more to clog the middle of the line. Plus when Lovie is really looking to stop the rush up the middle he subs in Boone.

Will be interesting to see if he stays on as DC. Any team struggling defensively should definitely look at him. I'd expect Sean Payton to be named as the Saints coach very soon now. I was just saying, the Bears didn't exactly move the ball that last game like the '01 Rams. Their only TD came on a 3 yard drive. Now, the Panthers didnt really move it either, but all this means is whatever team makes less mistakes is gonna win when everyone seems to think it'll just be the same game all over again.
