DBAHO
Here we go; White Sox righthander Freddy Garcia has a higher ERA than teammates Mark Buehrle and Jon Garland, but some scouts say Garcia should be the team's Game 1 starter in the postseason. Garcia offers the most experience, having made six postseason starts for the Mariners in 2000 and 2001. ...

Jordan4life_2007
Buehrle and Garland sure haven't given us a whole lot of reason to dispute what's Ken is saying.

Buehrle and Garland carried this team a long way. You've got to stick with them. If Garcia loses game one at home, then we have to come back with Buehrle and Garland as they are pitching now, things would look bleak. I'll take my chances with Mark and Jon, then Freddie in game 3. chisoxfan79
I remember a thread like this way back in the day when they were up 15 games. I they hang on to home field they should go MB and JG games 1 and 2 they are the only two of the five starters that have pitched well at home this year then go FG and The Count games 3&4. I am convinced that Duques arm is done for the year and he should pitch out of the Pen.

I read through ^^ three times and still can hardly comprehend how you came to the conclusion you did. If Garcia started game 1 and lost how would things look any more bleak than if Buehrle and Garland started games 1 & 2 and lost and then Garcia started game 3??? I'm kinda hoping for a Garcia, Buehrle, Garland rotation. Because IMO that goes from least likely to implode in a playoff start to most likely not look too good. Wong & Owens
I want Freddy in game one, Buehrle in game 2. But, let's get to the playoffs first.......
LosMediasBlancas
It depends on who we might play in that 1st round. 'Long Ball Freddy' against the Bo-Sox, at the Cell would make me nervous. Then again, he's kinda gotten the long ball under control and they're just as likely to go yard on him at Fenway. Tough call, but these next 3 weeks will tell us a lot. fathom
IF the Sox make the playoffs, and IF the Sox have a home game in the first game, Garcia shouldn't be starting. He's obviously been better on the road this season. And as for his playoff experience, I don't remember him having too much success.

DBAHO
QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 14, 2005 -> 12:01 AM) IF the Sox make the playoffs, and IF the Sox have a home game in the first game, Garcia shouldn't be starting. He's obviously been better on the road this season. And as for his playoff experience, I don't remember him having too much success. The problem is, the only 2 starters that are better at the Cell than away IIRC are Buerhle and Garland, and they are struggling to capture their early season form. Contreras, Garcia, B-Mac and El Duque all pitch better away from the Cell, which is going to cause some problems if we make the playoffs and we have home field advantage. Chisoxrd5
QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Sep 13, 2005 -> 09:05 AM) Didn't he beat us in the 2000 playoffs? That doesn't count he only beat the White Sox. :rolly He actually didn't pitch all that well in that game anyway. But in six career postseason starts hes 3-2 with a 3.71 ERA...not exactly bad by any means

Actually I checked and Jose Mesa was the winner. Our bullpen was also very effective in the game. LVSoxFan
I don't think we can just outright state so-and-so is going to be any game starter. It's going to be all about matchups. I hardly think Buehrle or Garland would be offended it they weren't first.

No kidding. That's why no matter what my response is, I put in the disclaimer of "If we make the playoffs"! The thing is, as much as people like you and I complain about these threads, it doesn't have one ounce of influence on what happens on the field. AddisonStSox
I know this: 1. Freddy should pitch the first game on the road 2. Contreras, in an attempt to coddle his confidence issues (although with a very impressive appearence in the Bronx, this may not be as severe), should pitch at home. To think he would pitch before Buehrle and Garland is not giving those two guys enough respect for getting us this far this season, but also is completely ignoring the type of manager that Ozzie is.
