joeynach
Listening to the radio ESPN 1000 reported Marte did not take the team flight to KC and is not expected to make it to KC by game time. Thats all they said, they didn't speculate or elaborate. This is becoming a sideshow, i say just release him to do what the eagles did and send him home, and we then trade him in the offseason. Furthermore, I was thinking maybe this is a blessing in disguise. Marte has been and Enigma all year. A left handed specialist who has been anything but all year. Ozzie tries to instill confidence in him, he trots him out there all the time to get lefties out. This year however hes been pretty bad with walks, hbp, and giving up runs in clutch situations. Maybe if hes not around its better cuz Oz cant trot him out there to hope and try to regain the Marte that just doesn't exist anymore. LosMediasBlancas
Problem is, what other lefty options does he have at this point? Marte is turning into a huge dissapointmnet and him not throwing well, or not being around at all is gonna hurt.
bjm676
The only bad thing that can come out of this is that it decreases his trade value. We would still have to eat his contract if we released him.

He can face more than 1 or 2 hitter per game. Also Viscaino is highly regarded is a righty who gets lefties out. So there is 2 options. Also consider throwing Jenks out there to blow everyone away. SnB
ozzie needs to get over himself, if he's the one in charge of this soap opera.
fathom
Why in the world would you release him? Keep him on the team, hope he gets his ass in gear over the next 3 weeks, and then package him in a trade for offense during the offseason. Releasing him solves absolutely nothing. The Ginger Kid
I'm lost. I had no idea things had gotten this bad with Marte. This is bad for the team in a stretch drive. When he's on he's got closer stuff. WTF is this guy's problem??? :banghead

Viz has had a lot more troubles against lefties this season than he did last year. Last year, he used a very solid splitter to get lefties out. This year, he's been all slider, all the time. fathom
We're a better team with Marte on the roster than Marte off of the roster. It's up to Ozzie to use him effectively for the time being.

fathom
I have a crazy idea....lets just go with our best relievers in a situation that best fits their abilities. No more using Cotts as a situational lefty. No more bringing Jenks in to face one batter. If we get to the 9th with a close lead, BRING IN HERMANSON (as long as he's healthy). Guest JimH
This is sounding more and more like a personal problem (with Marte). Not suggesting there is a problem between him and Guillen ... reading between the lines here it seems to me that Damaso is having issues unrelated to baseball. Just a guess on my part, but whatever it is I hope it gets resolved, this team needs an effective Damaso Marte. I think the only other lefty on the 40 man is Munoz and he may already be out of the country.

I believe Jenks is the most effective pitcher vs LH hitters. So he is your 8th inning guy no matter what. Cotts is your situational guy against LH hitters, and Polite is your righty. problem solved.
