southsideirish71
The funny s*** about this season is that for the last few years we have had plenty of offense but no pitching. You take this years pitching staff and you put it on last years or the 2003 team, and we win over 100 games. But now we have great pitching outside of a few, and no f***ing offense. We get 4 hit or worse than any other team. Our offense is ranked at the bottom of the AL in OBP, singles, doubles, triples, etc. But oddly we will still break 200 homers. Even with losing all that power from last year.
Balta1701
QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 17, 2005 -> 10:54 AM) McCarthy won't start in the playoffs. If you think he will, you obviously don't know Ozzie. I don't think he will...but saying McCarthy could be Beckett would imply that he would be starting for us, so I was asking how that would happen. S720
QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Sep 17, 2005 -> 12:52 PM) So out of Buehrle, Garland, Contreras, and Garcia, which pitcher do you pull out of the 4 man rotation that we'll probably use in the playoffs to insert McCarthy? Damn Balta, why do you have to ask me that question? Let's just assume that Buehrle and/or one of the four pitch terribly and BMAC pitches great until the end of the regular season, and that the White Sox still make the postseason, do you still start all four over BMAC? We lost Ordonez, but replaced him with Dye, who has put up nearly Identical power numbers. We lost Lee, but replaced him by adding Iguchi and replacing Davis with Pierzynski. We lost Valentin, but replaced him with Uribe. We have a Carl Everett who was actually in shape to start the season...and we added in about 10 dingers from Frank. Seriously...the biggest difference between our power numbers this year and our power numbers last year is people not putting up the numbers they did last year - ARow, Crede, Uribe...all of them are down in power #'s from last year. We were going to lose a few home runs...but by putting Dye in RF and putting AJ behind the plate, we were going to make up the majority of it. jphat007
Tomorrow will be the big game. Need a 3.5 lead going into the Indian series. If we can take 2 of 3 there, we'll be alright for the season.

If McCarthy continues with the hot hand, yes I would. In a pennant race...you have to show whether or not you're worthy enough to pitch in the playoffs. If you can't do it, you go to the bullpen. Unfortunately...Ozzie won't, and we all know that.

But also, it would be nice to have a big enough lead that if we win 2 out of 3 vs Cleveland, we can be in the driver's seat again. Good stuff today
S720
Man, BMAC has looked good so far. One thing is for sure. BMAC HAS to be on our 2006 starter rotation. Very happy that KW hanged onto him.

We will win tomorrow game and head home with 4 1/2 games lead. How come I don't feel the almost-dead frustration on this board today even if we lose the game? Remember we only need one of the Indians or Yankees to lose tonight. Both lost would be caviar. Because everyone on this board saw the pitching matchup and knew we hardly had a prayer in this game, so everyone was just resigned to losing and looking onto Jose's game tomorrow. Dick Allen
QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Sep 17, 2005 -> 12:09 PM) We took two 300+ hitters and replaced them with guys who hit 30 points less as their career average. Exactly. We took 2 guys who hit 300 with 30+ homers and 100+ rbis and replaced them with guys who hit for a lower average, score fewer runs and drive in fewer runs, and we were told that the offense was more balanced. The difference between this year's team and the past several is the pitching.

southsideirish71
QUOTE(jphat007 @ Sep 17, 2005 -> 12:20 PM) Cmon KC. YOu have to beat Cleveland just once this weekend. Cleveland got the memo, KC is the worst team in baseball. They will sweep them. We however have our number one and number 2 pitches s*** the bed, and our closer give up a bunch of hits. We scored a bunch of runs against the worst pitching staff in baseball and some people on here thought our offense was fixed. Run the Charlotte Knights out there and they will put up a 5-9 spot against the Royals.
