Chisoxrd5
QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 20, 2005 -> 09:28 AM) It's amazing that 149 games into the season, Ozzie still has no feel for which pitchers should be in to face which batters. Cotts has some of the best numbers I've ever seen from a lefty in regards to facing righties. All you have to watch is how batters from BOTH sides of the plate react to Cotts fastball to see how effective he can be against hitters. The ball gets on them so quick and they take some of the worst swings against a fastball that I have ever seen. The few times Cotts has looked shaky is when he comes in with runners on. This shouldn't be suprising to coaches or fans because he still a younger pitcher who has battled with some control problems over the past few years. Nothing about Cotts screams out 'situational lefty' but for some reason that is the role he has been given on this team. He has been set up to fail the entire second half and still his numbers have been outstanding.
DBAHO
QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 21, 2005 -> 12:17 AM) Casey Blake dropped a flyball, which lead to a big inning. The Indians also had massive warning track power last night, as they could have easily been up 5-0 in the 2nd inning. I bet the Indians fans are saying how great of a comeback the Sox made last night, and it still wasn't good enough to beat them. But we did as well you know, with Crede and was it Iguchi? both going to the warning track in the 1st 4 innings against Millwood. And with Jake Westbrook on the mound (AWAY - 4.89, 0-3 vs. Sox this season with 4.95 ERA), I like our chances to do something good tonight. sircaffey
QUOTE(Y2HH @ Sep 20, 2005 -> 06:22 AM) Guillen put in the right pitchers for the right situations and THEY failed, the pitchers. Jenks failing against Boone is something I never saw happening, and neither did you, to claim you did makes you sound stupid. Boy, if only that were true. Marte our "left handed specialist" faced Hafner and Martinez. If only Hafner wasn't hitting .294 lifetime off Marte and if only Martinez wasn't hitting .364 lifetime off Marte, it would have been the right move. Marte has some kind of dirt on Ozzie. Is Damaso married to Ozzie's sister in law or something?
wallyburger
QUOTE(sircaffey @ Sep 20, 2005 -> 10:52 AM) Boy, if only that were true. Is Damaso married to Ozzie's sister in law or something? Uncle Ozzie would rather take care of his " kid" Marte, than win games. Why do people try to figure out why The Blizzard does things. He is a crazy man, and crazy men do crazy things. The definition of a crazy person is ; "one who does the same thing time and again and expects a different outcome every time". southsider2k5
QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Sep 20, 2005 -> 09:23 AM) Next time Ozzie starts running out to the mound every batter to get a lefty/lefty or righty/right match-up, you may want to look at the stats of the 5 pitchers he does this for most often: Politte .159 against LH .175 against RH Jenks .089 against LH .273 against RH Cotts .215 against LH .127 against RH Marte .256 against LH .235 against RH Vizcaino .311 against LH .235 against RH Except for Vizcaino all the other guys actually have more success against the guys they are being lifted for than the guys they are going in the game to retire. I keep seeing these numbers, but I would like someone to answer me this. How much of this is due to the left handers that they do face. If they are a GOOD lefty Ozzie uses Marte or Cotts to get them out. Which means that when they do face a lefty, they aren't facing a Travis Hafner, they are facing a no named chump. Vizcaino being the middle reliever faces a lot more hitters, as he logs more innings per outing, much earlier in the game, which means he is seeing some of these same lefties that Marte would face later in the game. Would all of these guys have nearly the same numbers against lefties if they faced anywhere near the quality of hitters that first Marte, and then Cotts faces? I seriously doubt it. Once again there are 3 kinds of lies. Lies, Damned Lies, and Statistics.

I was there for batting pratice and Cleveland was just CRUSHING the ball. I don't think I've ever seen that many balls go into the stands, and I mean WAY into the stands. I'm surprised they only got the four runs that they did.

RockRaines
You guys are all weak and pathetic. WE own the tribe. So they sqeaked out a game when our pitchers were horrible. We pounded the best pitcher in the AL ERA-wise. We own the tribe this year 10-4, what makes you think we wont take the next two games? We own our division and only play them the rest of the way. Everyone who is s***ting on the sox needs to leave the site. It was better here before you came anyway. I wont miss your horrible opinions and your knowledge-less posts. The thing about baseball is they all counted for the samething... Outs. I definitely agree. All I was pointing out was that there was another team on the field last night, and it wasn't just the Sox who were either getting all the breaks or making bad pitches/errors. I bet a lot of Indians fans were upset that Sizemore didn't catch PK's double. Sure didn't seem like he jumped too well to try and catch that ball. If Jason Tyner could catch that ball, Sizemore could have also.

I sincerely believe that the Indians are guaranteed to make the playoffs right now. They're just playing too well to not win a substantial amount of the rest of their games. Thus, it's between the Sox and the Yankees to make the playoffs. Yankees have won like 7 of their last 8, and have a relatively easy schedule. It's definitely a tough 13 game finish for the Sox.
