Jimbo's Drinker
is this the extra "oomph" we needed. Talk amongst yourselves.

DonkeyKongerko
I thought that immediately after they showed that replay. So far the Indians fans reactions haven't been quite the uproar we saw after the Hunter-Burke incident. If Cleveland does miss the playoffs after this, you can bet that play will get some more attention. I still haven't found a picture of it yet but I liked this one too. The Bones
QUOTE(YASNY @ Sep 21, 2005 -> 01:53 AM) Considering I didn't get to see the game tonight, someone please fill me in on exactly what occured here. I had to laugh when I saw that picture. Bottom 7th Sox trailed 5-4 with Kong on 3rd and Pierz on 2nd. Rowand hits a sac fly to right, kong tags and scores. The throw home got cutoff and thrown away trying to get A.J. at 3rd and as Boone goes to the ground trying to get the ball A.J. rounds 3rd and stepped on his back and scored the go ahead run. One of many exciting moments in the game.
The Ginger Kid
If you watch the replay, after AJ scored he held up his hand in a gesture to Boone to show it wasn't intentional. Boone dove in his path and he had no where else to go. He didn't go out of his way to step on him, that's for sure. Like that prick Hunter (by the way, can we sign him?) Like that prick Hunter (by the way, can we sign him?) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Oh yes, he ABSOLUTELY went out of his way to step on Boone’s back. He he he. If you recall, AJ was only trying to get to the bag at third. He wouldn’t have overrun it toward the dugout. When the ball sailed past, he had to stutter-step to make sure he landed on Boone. Personally, though, I hope he was really aiming for his ass, not his back.

ceffa2000
ok I think I'm going to puke after how fast that thing plays. Thanks though!
3E8
You can see he doesn't stomp down on his back. He lifts both his arms up trying to alieviate the pressure.
LosMediasBlancas
He had no choice. Seeing AJ and Paulie running the bases behind one another at full speed, on the same play, is one of the funniest things I have ever seen in a Sox game. IndplsSoxFan
Did Cora raise his hands to stop AJ or to get out of the way.
FlaSoxxJim
QUOTE(IndplsSoxFan @ Sep 21, 2005 -> 08:51 AM) Did Cora raise his hands to stop AJ or to get out of the way. I think he was getting out of the way. I don't think it was at all intentional by AJ, and he seemed to do the best he could to put very little weight on Boone's back while still not letting up on making home. RockRaines
The funny thing is. It was a smart play. By stepping on Boone's back, he couldnt get off the ground in a hurry which may have allowed some more time for the runners to advance
southsideirish71
QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Sep 21, 2005 -> 08:13 AM) If it was ANYONE else than AJ, I would say it was unintentional, but I have a hard time beleiveing that it just so happened to be AJ that dug his spikes into Boones back.....I love Pierz. This is exactly what I was talking about when they were looking at signing him in the offseason. If he does that to us, we would be screaming, the fact that he spiked boone, Its gravy. Its the same thing as Rodman, he is someone that you hate to play against but man would you love on your team. KW better give this guy a 3 year deal. Boone came up right after the inning and didn't seem to be pissed at AJ. Either way, I couldn't stop laughing. It was one of the few tension relieving moments of the game. I think he tried to jump him, but relized he wasn't going to make it without risking injury and just went ahead and stepped on him. Like someone said earlier, you can see his hand going up trying to alleviate the pressure.

fathom
If AJP did that to a Sox player in the past, we would have gone nuts about it. However, since he's a good guy, and not an enemy, you won't hear any complaints from me. Now I know how Illinois basketball fans must have felt with Lucas Johnson. UC76
It didn't look intentional to me. In fact, I didn't even notice it until the commercial break was over and Hawk and DJ pointed it out. It just looked like Pierz had nowhere else to land. I wish someone would step on Travis Hafner.
