Rowand44
QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 25, 2005 -> 08:08 PM) There's a difference between keeping him as a "starter", and resting him a game or tow to sit back, relax, and not press so hard. Everett should still be the Sox DH, but he should also get a day off soon, as he's in a terrible mindset at the plate. That I completely agree with. CWSGuy406
QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Sep 26, 2005 -> 02:07 AM) Ok, that's fair. He's been awful as of late you're going to get no argument out of me there. However, I think he's earned a spot in the lineup as he has been productive most of the season. He should never bat 3rd again though. His .734 OPS ranks higher than only Podsednik and Uribe. And tied with Pierzynski. I'm sorry, but your designated hitter -- key word being hitter -- shouldn't rank in the bottom third of your lineup in OPS. That's pathetic. And, I know that you can't just hand the spot over to someone else, but when Carl starts to b**** about being moved down -- then we have problems. FWIW, I certainly believe that a platoon of Gload/Anderson could easily give us a .750 OPS. If Carl doesn't start hitting in Detroit, maybe it's time to see what these guys can do...? I've wanted gload to have a chance to play all season so no argument there. If we throw Anderson in there he's going to look awesome some games and horrendous in others. Besides we both know this is a moot point cause ozzie won't pull carl. Edited September 26, 2005 by Rowand44
knightni
I'm all for starting Anderson vs Detroit in LF and DHing Pods. Let Everett sit tomorrow night out.
Mercy!
Noticed this about Carl Everett lately? Some players seem to, uh, “adjust” themselves more frequently than others. But recently, Carl’s just been going on a tear. Today, for instance, he seemed to be giving the jewels a tug after almost every swing of the bat. Swing-miss-tug; swing-miss-jiggle; swing-miss-pull; walk back to the bench. Please don’t call me freaky. Hasn’t everyone else noticed this, too? Anyway, perhaps just going up one size in whatever gear he’s wearing might be just what he needs to give his batting average a little lift. The Critic
I voted "other" for the mix-and-match method. A little Konerko at DH/Gload at 1B. A little Dye at DH/Anderson in RF. Maybe a spot start at DH for a guy like Ozuna. But I don't think they should sit Jurassic entirely. Maybe loan him Crede's VCR so he can watch some tapes to see what he's doing wrong. Just make sure Joe gets it back so HE doesn't forget what he needs to do at the plate.
JoshPR
Bench his ass. Why? one thing is going bad and doing lil things for the team and try, another is free swining like he's trying to hit a piñata
Dick Allen
QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Sep 25, 2005 -> 08:05 PM) Who said he should be batting third? Mr. Everett thinks he should be batting third.
santo=dorf
Put in Borchard. Gotta get something out of that $5.3 million.
Rowand44
QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Sep 26, 2005 -> 07:48 AM) Mr. Everett thinks he should be batting third. Yes, well this might be Carl's craziest belief yet.
Allsox
Someone correct me if I'm wrong but Carl's contract for next yr has a 500K buyout right? Me thinks with Carl talking like an idiot again, Frank will take Carl's salary slot for next yr at 5 mil....That's doable for JR and Frank right?!? And I voted for other....I'd like to see Ross Gload take some swings as the DH this week if Carl still's struggling....
bjm676
Liriano figured Carl NeverHit out pretty well. Just throw three pitches in the dirt and he'll swing, no matter what. Time for Borchard.
Chisoxfn
QUOTE(SnB @ Sep 25, 2005 -> 06:06 PM) what's his numbers in the last month? he's been dreadful and there's no reason that he NEEDS to start everyday. Honestly, there is every reason for him to be playing consistently, only from the back of the order. Without Everett, this team could find itself in trouble in the post-season. However, if Everett can get hot (and the only way he does this is by fighting through the slump with AB's) than he could turn into another nice bat in the playoffs. I'm not saying he should be hitting 3rd, I like it where he has been the past couple games.

I'm not saying he should be hitting 3rd, I like it where he has been the past couple games. Unfortunately he doesn't and with that attitude it does not bode well for him breaking out of his slump. I agree he needs to play through it but he has to want to do the right things. After the first 6 swing and misses yesterday he should have at least taken 1 strike. Something he did not do all day.
