Whitesoxfan56
After Sunday's action, what is the magic number for the division ? for the wildcard ? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> AL CENTRAL:5 WILD CARD:5, but technically it is 3, because the yanks and red sox will play each other 3 times, and one team has to loss atleast twice. If we win 3 more games we would clinch a playoff birth
spiderman
QUOTE(Whitesoxfan56 @ Sep 25, 2005 -> 09:34 PM) AL CENTRAL:5 WILD CARD:5, but technically it is 3, because the yanks and red sox will play each other 3 times, and one team has to loss atleast twice. If we win 3 more games we would clinch a playoff birth Thanks! One other question. If we get the Magic Number Down to 1, does that mean, we clinch at least a tie for the division ? And 0 means we win it outright ?

Yes if we end up tied, we play Cleveland on Monday 1 game playoff I do believe What if the Yankees tie the Red Sox in the AL East? Next Monday (Oct. 3), the Yankees would host the Red Sox. What if the Indians and the White Sox are tied in the AL Central? Next Monday (Oct. 3), the Indians would host the White Sox.

So, in reality, 6 is more-or-less the magic number since we clinch outright then.... Does anyone have the pitching matchups for the Tigers series ? According to ESPN.com, Jason Johnson is starting two games in a row for the Tigers. :headshake Once vs Garland, then vs BMAC. Then Jose is going against Sean Douglass. I'm guessing a scrub will go against BMAC. (Okay, Robertson). Double good news... no Bonderman and no Maroth. Does anyone have the pitching matchups for the Tigers series ? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> to win the division outright, the magic number is 5. any combo of indians losses + sox wins that =5, the sox win the division no questions asked here is the pitching link: Pitchers for Tigers series

GreatScott82
I would feel pretty comfortable if we just win the 4 in Detroit. Than all the D-Rays would have to do is win once and the Central division is ours!! Although it would be sweet as hell to win it on Cleveland's turf... BUT i don't think my heart can take any more nerve racking games. Hmm what happens if we clinch a playoff birth before the division/ wildcard winners are officially decided? Do they celebrate- or do they pull a Cardinals and wait until somethings official?

The Ginger Kid
KC could've easily won two games from the tribe if they weren't so awful in fielding the stupid baseball. It was only just that they won they way they did today. The Devil Rays will play hard and I think one of their lefties will win in Cleveland. The big question mark is how the Sox will play in Detroit, who seem to have snapped out of it the last two days. IMHO, they'll be reeking of champagne and beer when the charter flight lands in Cleveland, having clinched the central on Thursday with a sweep of the hapless kitties. And I hope they take 2 of 3 and knock the tribe out of the playoffs altogether!! Edited September 26, 2005 by The Ginger Kid

Everyone is talking Sox-Indians and no one is mentioning the team we have FOUR games against, in Detroit. We can't get too low after losses or too high after wins. We still gotta handle business, I'd be thrilled if we took 3 from them.

Unless both teams are guaranteed playoff spots. If the Indians & Sox finish with more wins than either the Yankees or Red Sox, there would be no playoff - the Sox own the h2h against the Indians and so they would win the division and Cle the wc.
