Harry Chappas
f*** it if we don't win it ain't my fault. Correct me if I'm wrong; 1 win = WC tie 2 win= WC 3 win = Division (Bos or NY need to win all 5 to have best record in AL over us) Regardless of what any other team does. nitetrain8601
I think it's 2 = WC tie 3 = WC 4 = Division. I could be wrong though.
wsox08
Let's just win 'em all so we don't have to worry!
Greg Hibbard
because either Boston or New York is guaranteed to lose 67 games (both have 65 tonight), one win gets us a WC tie no matter what. whitesoxfan101
Yanks and Red Sox lost tonight, so 1 win clinches at least a WC tie and 2 clinches the WC outright.

Whitesoxfan56
So if we win tommorrow and the yanks and red sox lose, does that mean we clinch a playoff birth?

Whitesoxfan56
If we win and they both lose, we're in. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Awesome, it doesnt clinch the division yet, but clinching a birth is a start
Whitewashed in '05
However we get in to the playoffs is ok with me but I would love it if they held the division down. Although I would forgive them if we got some WC luck like the last few WS winners and do something. They should just think about winning every game though. fathom
The Sox got "a little magic" tonight, with all three teams losing games that it seemed like they had a very good chance to win sometime during the game.

YASNY
For the record, clinching a wild card tie is clinching nothing.

fathom
QUOTE(YASNY @ Sep 28, 2005 -> 06:16 AM) For the record, clinching a wild card tie is clinching nothing. It gives you a shot where all you have to do is win one game. A lot better position than not clinching anything.
southsider2k5
QUOTE(YASNY @ Sep 28, 2005 -> 01:16 AM) For the record, clinching a wild card tie is clinching nothing. If we tie with Cleveland for the division/wildcard, then we actually take the division title by virtue of head to head record.
Dick Allen
QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Sep 28, 2005 -> 11:08 AM) If we tie with Cleveland for the division/wildcard, then we actually take the division title by virtue of head to head record. If there is a tie, a tie breaker would be played in Cleveland Monday. They won the coin flip. Head to head doesn't matter. The thing that would really suck would be if the Sox and Cleveland finished with the same record as the 2nd place team in the East, although I'm not sure that's possible. The Sox and Cleveland would be playing for their playoff lives, because a loss is considered a regular season game and they would be a half game out of the wild card. If the Sox and Tribe end up tied AND have a better record than the second place team in the ALE THEN H2H records matter. The Sox will automatically be named division champs. If the Sox, Tribe and second place team in the ALE all end up tied, there will be a playoff between the 3 teams. Sox and Tribe would play each other and the loser would play Bos/NY for the WC. So basically if the Sox win their next 2 and Cleveland loses 1 more against TB, its over. Edited September 28, 2005 by Dick Allen

We could lose 2nd round home field but that is it. A loss by any of the other three tonight and/or tomorrow make it easier.
