El Duque and/or BMac on Playoff Squad

Given smaller playoff squads and the number of pitchers we already have, would you place El Duque, BMac, both or neither on your Sox playoff squad?

This is an extension of a discussion on WSCR.

El Duque has hardly been a shining light of late. Does his playoff experience make him a valuable component in playoff situations anyway?

BMac on the other hand has been very good of late. Does his inexperience and inconsistency overall make him too risky especially given you have to trim your roster quite a bit for the playoffs?

I voted yes for both.. If anything leave Geoff Blum or someone like that off the roster.. El Duque and his playoff experince will definitely be necessary and BMac is pitching great right now.. What would we be telling him if he wasn't on the roster?

Can I ask for what?? If he pitches he's coming out of the bullpen where he'd probably get rocked more then he already has and the fact that it would take him like half the game to get warm.

Vizcaino should be the odd guy out, frankly. McCarthy has earned the long relief role, and El Duque could be especially valuable in the bullpen if we end up facing the Yanks.

Vizcaino has only been sharp after he got a lot of use, and he's had no appearances except mop up work in a long time.

I'll take the extra arm that has loads of playoff experience over another useless bat off the bench.  Even if El Duque doesn't pitch in the playoffs, his experience and leadership could prove far more valuable than a Blum strikeout.

So the extra arm means no Blum or Gload. Meaning if we need a pinch runner for Pauly in a late game situation it can't happen.

Yep, if we're only carrying 11 pitchers then there's going to be 2 odd men out. Viz has got to be one of them but I'm torn about who the other should be.

I can see why Ozzie recused himself from these decisions and is leaving it up to the coaching staff and KW.

Ozzie did that? I'm surprised. Can't imagine another manager like Cox or Torre saying he'll let his coaches and the front office decide.

Oh well. One thing's for sure, it's a really tough call. I'm not crazy about Vicaino but he's been with the team all year and contributed at times to victories. As has Willie Harris, although he's obviously not been there the whole time. But Duque won some big, big games for us. Need I remind you of the first game in Minny this year? He's helped Count all year long and I'd hate to see him left off the roster. Just as I'd hate to see Hermanson's name left off. But if you're looking for someone who hasn't contributed much lately, Hermie's right up there with Duque.
