Jim Fainter
Eddi Lantigua made the Denver papers today. He cleared up his visa problems and is working out at the Yank's spring training complex. Now, before he achieves inevitable stardom with the Yankees, was it KW's decision to throw him in the Colon trade, or did Cashman seek him? Interesting, I had heard he had been banned for life by the commisioner's office. They must have gotten some things cleared up. I don't think anyone knows the answer to your question. Except KW, Cashman and some of their key aides.

Jim Fainter
Rex: Sorry, unable to get a link. I did not get the story off the internet; rather, it was in my morning paper. Then I tried to find it on the net, and the server was down. It was in today's Denver Post, under a section called AL Notes. It said, "Yankees minor league righthander Eddi Lantigua, acquired wwith Osuna from the White Sox, allowed three hits--including two infield singles--and struck out three over three scoreless innings in an extended spring training game against Philadelphia in Clearwater. Lantigua reported late because of visa problems." Best I can do. How would you rate him vs Cotts?

Lantigua reported late because of visa problems." Best I can do. How would you rate him vs Cotts? Lantigua was a guy that had a chance to make the big leagues. He failed last year when he started in AAA because he wasn't ready for AAA. He was supposed to be the Barons opening day starter, but because of other moves (Rauch starting in chicago being one), Lantigua was the guy to bump up to Charlotte. When he came back to Birmingham he was lights out. He was nails in the playoffs. Won 2 of the 3 wins in the Division Series and then pitched very, very well in the Championship game on short rest. Still, he has to prove himself at a higher level before he can be deemed ready for the Majors, which may or may not happen. Cotts has what it takes, but still has a lot to learn. He walks way too many and goes too deep into counts on the guys he does get out. His last 3 outings included: Near 100 pitches in 5 IP, 97 pitches in 5 IP and 81 pitches in 3 IP tonight. If he gets that part of his game solved, the rest is there. If not, then he will struggle above AA and possibly even in AA later this year.
