That is actually not true at all. When you look at what is cost to trade for Alex Rodriguez, who is far far far better than Manny, you would realize it will not cost that much. WHen a team is trying to dump a high priced contract (and when they need $$$ to get pitching) they make concessions on what they get back as long as it is cheap.....Damaso + ANderson should do it.

Did you see what they were asking for at the deadline?? The arod situation was a whole different story. Plus, since when isn't soriano that much?

Not a chance in hell they'd take that sox r us.  They're going to want a kings ransom for him and wouldnt surprise me if they got exactly that from the metropolitans.

I really do not think so, Rowand. See my post above....what did it cost to get Alex Rodriguez? It sure wasnt an arm and a leg.....

Rowand - if the Bo Sox feel they are better off getting rid of Manny, they will not ask for the arm and leg. Bo SOx need some $$$ space to bring in pitching in the offseason. Dumping Manny is one way to do that....While this is not a very good comparison, just look at what it cost the Os to get Sosa from the Cubs ...almost nothing. NOw I understand Sosa is no Manny, but before this past year he was not that bad with his production either.....

They have a crapload of free agents so they'll have money to spend. It's not like Manny is crippling them financially, his contract is huge but they can handle it. The only reason they'll trade him is because Manny wants out. They dont have to deal him and if they do they'll get a lot back in return.

Getting ManRam from Boston ... well you can start by saying good bye to ARow. Damon is a FA and they'll want a solid veteran CF'er to replace him. So, the Sox move Pods to CF, put Manny in LF and our OF defense goes right in the crapper.

The only way I would want Manny Ramirez is as a DH. The guy's a bum in the outfield. And even if he was only a DH, I would still have to see him admire his almost homeruns and end up turning doubles into singles. No thanks, especially not for $20 million a year.

Now my question to Sox-r-us is this. Would you prefer Manny by himself, or Paul Konerko AND a trade option for a DH like Kevin Mench, Lyle Overbay or Chad Tracy? Killing 2 birds with 1 stone that way.

And Dye's not going to field at 1B, even though that was discussed around here about 3 months ago.

Mench isn't much more productive than Carl Everett. I'd rather give Frank his $3.5 million buyout and offer him a cheap 2-year deal. According to his comments during the celebration, Frank doesn't want to play for any other team. If Frank gets injured again next season, just start Brian Anderson in RF and DH Dye (I'm assuming that Brian Anderson will be our 4th outfielder).

Thoughts???

No.. just no.

It wouldnt make sense..

He's slow, cant play defense, isnt really a team player, and his salary is way too high for the White Sox to even mention his name.

Just no.

If JR wanted to open the checkbook, I would take Manny in a heartbeat. The man can rake. For all those who says he would be a disruptive force, if he's so disruptive how come he's always on teams in the playoffs? It isn't going to happen. $20 million a year isn't going to fit the Sox budget, and supposedly Boras is going to be becoming his agent.

Mench has a lot more scope to improve. Plus he only made $345,000 last season, which in the Sox payroll plans, would certainly help. But he's not my #1 trade option. Chad Tracy with splits of .308/.359/.553. That's a .911 OPS, and he's got the ability to play 1B/3B/LF/RF, even though he'd probably majorly DH for us.

And if Frank goes down, Anderson's not likely to put up that great numbers as a replacement in his 1st season. Think 2005 Aaron Rowand numbers with a bad K/BB ratio.

I really wish Tracy didn't go on the tear that he did at the end of the season. That might have raised his trade value through the roof. I like Mench, but I'm not sure how he'd be outside of Texas.

Instead of Manny how about Jim Thome for DH? Philly is going to deperate to get rid of him so he is not going to cost us alot. I think if he is healthy he can still hit 35-40 homers and if you can somehow resign Konerko that will give the Sox a RH/LH 3-4 combo that will scare opposing pitchers.

I'll pass.

Everyone talks about his posing after HRs, that doesn't bother me so much. But something I noticed in this series is how f***in lazy he is on defense. He flat out gives up on anything that's not hit right at him. He jogs to the ball and wiats for it to roll around and back to him.......and no arm.

No thx.

And that's different from our current LF? :P I'd only want Manny if he's a DH on our team. That's quite interesting that he said he wanted to play for the White Sox. It likely won't happen though.

Thx Fathom, I can always count on you for a positive spin. Don't get too down yet, the Sox could still lose the next series.

Manny and Pods would be one of the worst defensive outfields to ever play the game at any level.

Think cub outfield when sosa was moved to center.

Did I not say our OF defense would go right in the crapper?

Good grief. Yep, I'm really sitting here hoping we lose. Pods is not a good defensive outfielder, and Manny is worse on defense. I just don't think the trade will happen due to money reasons, chemistry reasons, and personnel reasons.

Manny Ramirez - OF - Red Sox

According to a source, Manny Ramirez told multiple White Sox players earlier this season that he wanted to play for manager Ozzie Guillen.

Ramirez is due to make $57 million over the next three seasons and has $20 million team options for 2009 and 2010. One definite snag in Ramirez's plans to change his Sox is that a report on FoxSports.com said he might be seeking Scott Boras as his new agent. This past offseason, the Sox eliminated Boras clients from their list of potential free-agent pitching acquisitions. Oct. 8 - 9:42 am et
