Ramirez wants to change Sox

October 8, 2005

BOSTON -- If seeing high-priced Manny Ramirez in a White Sox uniform next season sounds far-fetched, consider that the Boston Red Sox outfielder has said he would like it to happen.

According to a source, Ramirez told multiple White Sox players earlier this season that he wanted to play on the South Side and suit up for manager Ozzie Guillen.

Seeing the White Sox jump out to a 2-0 lead over the Red Sox in the American League Division Series this week might have inspired Ramirez into action to make a White Sox deal a reality. A report Thursday said Ramirez had fired his agent and is seeking a replacement, possibly with the intent of having his new representation work a trade out of Boston.

Landing the volatile outfielder seems unlikely, though, and not only because of his price tag. Ramirez is due to make $57 million over the next three seasons and has $20 million team options for 2009 and 2010.

Earlier this season, after Ramirez told Sports Illustrated that he preferred a trade from the Red Sox, members of White Sox management said Ramirez's baggage was capable of damaging team chemistry. Ramirez is the kind of high-profile, large-ego player whom general manager Ken Williams avoided when putting together this season's roster.

One definite snag in Ramirez's plans to change his Sox is that a report on FoxSports.com said he might be seeking Scott Boras as his new agent. This past offseason, the Sox eliminated Boras clients from their list of potential free-agent pitching acquisitions. The only Sox player currently represented by Boras is Joe Crede.

Yep, if it wasn't for Boras(who he'll prolly hire) I think he would fit in with the latin clubhouse and he'd help keep everyone at ease. I don't think Manny's personality would be any problem really. I mean Ozzie would tell him like it is and Manny knows by now what type of team we are. Boras would be a huge problem however.

Oh yeah, don't hate on redsoxjamie. He isn't so bad. He's like benchwarmerjim.

Much as people bash Konerko I think he's proven himself many times over in the second half and so far in the playoffs.  f*** this s***bag Ramirez.......let the Spankees have him.

Let's not get crazy here Nuke. Manny on the White Sox would automatically be the best hitter on our team as soon as he joined(though that will probably never happen).

:) Thanks. You guys are cool with me too--my mom's family is from the South Side (although I'm a Bostonian). Still pissed that you guys beat us, though (believe me, if you guys win it all, you will find that the grace period is much shorter than you may think.)

Maybe, but right now. if we win it all, we could go 0-162 next year. I want us to get those 8 more wins this October so bad.

Believe me, as a fan of the other-colored Sox, I know exactly how bad you want those wins. And losing this year felt about 1/50 as bad as losing in 2003--or any other year--did. But even if you do win the world series this year, you'll come back, and the highs will still be high, the lows will still be low. It'll be mellowed a bit, but that's just the nature of being a fan.

Thanks for the experienced comment. I really hope White Sox fans can say something like that soon.

This makes perfect sense to me. I can't see the vultures stop circling over Ozzie just because he wins the World Series.

I like this idea, I have to admit it I'm a Manny fan. I think if there was anyone to keep him on a short leash, it's Ozzie.

Plus, that dude playing on the South Side alone would be a huge move for Uncle Jerry.

He'd make a good DH in place of Everret and If Big frank hangs it up.

Konerko/Manny combo would be awesome if if could happen, just postive thinkin!

I agree with alot of what people are saying.

I just confer that if there was anyone to turn him into a non douche it's Ozzie.

I am starting to get the feeling that all the latin players and alot of players in general are going to want to play for him.

Kinda like how all these people want to play for Dusty Baker, f*** why not Ozzie?

Now, we need Vlad from the Angels.
