Reddy
QUOTE(SoxRock192 @ Oct 8, 2005 -> 01:39 PM) Yeah, that is why I want the Yanks personally, i'd rather face the yankees because they are of the same mold as Boston. weak pitching and amazing hitting. we could do the same to them as we did to boston. now Anaheim is a team built like us. they have pitching, defense, running, and a relatively decent offense. i'd much rather face another "boston" than a copy of ourselves. kapkomet
Anahiem ('cuse me) LAA is a LOT more of a difficult foe then are the Yankmees. If we get NYY, we win in 5. If we get LAA, toss it up, because both are pretty good.

RME JICO
I just hope the NYY LAA series goes to 5 games. They play Game 4 Sunday in NY, then would have to fly to Cali and play Game 5 on Monday, then fly to CHI and play Game 1 of the ALCS on Tuesday. That is a lot of travelling in 3 days. 3 games in 3 cities in 3 days. There is no way that you would be fully ready to go, especially since there would be some celebration after the game for winning the ALDS. This would also bode well for the Sox in terms of opposing starting pitchers. Colon and Mussina would most likely pitch Game 5 and they would not be ready to pitch again until Game 3 of the ALCS. By then we could have a 2-0 lead.

We will have the huge advantage if this happens and Fartolo gets pushed back.
southsider2k5
From the looks of it, if we get the Yankees, we will be seeing Randy Johnson in Game One. That and the way Mariano Rivera are pitching kinda scares me. Really unless we get to their starters early, we are looking at Rivera and Gordon from the 6th inning on, not to mention the offense that the Yankees bring to the table. In reality, there are no easy games at this time of year, and whoever we get is going to be really, really tough. I just hope that we can steal Game One because the other team is exhausted. The Ginger Kid
QUOTE(bighurt574 @ Oct 10, 2005 -> 11:19 AM) I'll take the Yankees. Rivera pitched 2 innings last night, hopefully he will do the same tonight if they win. If you're facing Rivera when playing the Yankees then you're losing at the time. Rivera's the devil. I honestly don't care who the Sox play. The only advantage of playing the Angels is that I can go to at least one of the games in person. But I think it would be sweet to beat both Boston and New York on the way to the world series, however. Talk about taking the toughest road to get there.... Wedge
The best thing to happen for us: Mussina pitches, Johnson pitches, and Rivera pitches 2 and the Yankees win.
bjm676
The more I think about it, I'd rather face Anaheim. 1) No Colon until at least Game 3 2) MLB, FOX and ESPN would be pissed off that their precious darlings wouldn't be there. 3) Something about the Yankees and the postseason that scares me. LVSoxFan
I'd rather face the Yankees. Why? With Anaheim, there's: a) Our West Coast curse B) They're basically a better version of us, with better hitting c) Strong starters/great relievers d) They were better than us against us regular season (which I know doesn't count, like with Boston, but still...) e) Do YOU want to be watching those freakin' games that start at 9PM CT? At least the NYC ones get underway at 6 our time! Reasons for the Yankees: a) Nothing puts an "!" on a ALCS like beating the world-famous Yankees B) More people will be watching; even the more reason to spank them c) I hate them and their fans d) Their starters are on shaky, shaky ground e) We've beat them in their own house f) Sure Rivera's lights-out, but so what? g) Hey George: take a look at our $70MM payroll kicking your $200MM+ payroll ass! h) Just the cache of being able to say we beat the BoSox and the Yankees to win the AL! But that said, if we draw Anaheim, then so be it. The upside is that if we beat them, we bury that West Coast s*** once and for all. At least when it counted. Fingish
QUOTE(RockRaines @ Oct 10, 2005 -> 02:32 PM) They said the RJ is the first arm off the bench for the yankees, which means Wang in game one. Yeah, and he comes from that category of pitchers we really don't do well against, and that would be "Guys we've never seen before". Some teams seem to be willing to even call up minor leaguers to pitch to us knowing the trouble we've had against guys we haven't faced before. I'm starting to lean towards thinking the Angels might end up being the better matchup for us, especially if we don't have to face Colon in game 1. Freddy has just amazing career stats versus the Angels, I would hope he would pitch game 3 if we face them so he could possibly be used again if the series goes 7. It would be a tough series that we would have to play some good fundamental baseball to win, but I would rather worry about that than worry about those Yankee bats getting on a hot streak which is something we can do nothing about. The Angels starting pitching has had a very good year, but when you look at it I don't think their 1-4 even really comes that close to our 1-4 in the rotation. Colon obviously had a great year, but after him, I don't think there is a guy in their rotation that I would trade for a guy in our top 4. It's a tough call, anyone you play at this stage is going to be tough and putting out 100% effort, all you can do is hope to match that effort and have a couple of things go your way. ZoomSlowik
I'm starting to lean towards the Angels, despite my previous desire to play the Yankees. The whole rainout/game 5 situation has really screwed up their rotation. We probably won't see Colon OR Lackey until game 3. I seriously doubt that they would start Lackey in game two with only 2 days rest, especially with all the flying. That would mean we'll get Paul Byrd, and probably Jarrod Washburn, although suposedly he is pretty sick, meaning it could be someone else. Those two against Jose and Mark gives us a strong chance to go up 2-0. Their lineup isn't as imposing if either Vlad is cold or we pitch around him. They can scratch together a few runs if he isn't much of a factor, but it'll be similar to Boston with a cold Ramirez and Ortiz if he has some off games. The one major difference is the Angels' pen is better than Boston, but I don't see their starters being much better.
