Kyyle23
I had heard that the upcoming FA list was pretty weak. After scanning this list, i am going to have to disagree. Alot of big names could be moving on, it should be quite interesting. There are some teams on this list that could be completely unrecognizable opening day 2006. http://mlb.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/news/article...p&c_id=mlb#free Atlanta Braves Farnsworth, Kyle RP Franco, Julio 1B Furcal, Rafael SS Hollandsworth, Todd M. ZoomSlowik
This definitely qualifies as a weak class. There are some big names, but many are past their prime, ie Sammy Sosa, Nomar Garciaparra, Frank Thomas, and Mike Piazza. The closer group is pretty good, but there isn't much else. The only definite impact pitcher is Burnett, the only impact position players are Konerko, Furcal, Damon, and Giles if he moves to a more hitter friendly park. Plus, there is definitely no monster FA that everyone wants like the Beltrans and A-Rods of past years. There should be a decent amount of player movement, but that's true every year. Some of the names available in trades are much more intriguing, like Ramirez, Griffey, Dunn, Soriano, and Thome. Balta1701
It's also worth noting that a lot of the names on those lists might be people like Carl Everett...where the teams can hold an option to pick up the player's contract for another year. Thats why the # sign is next to them, which is indicated at the bottom as a Player and/or team option.

Ozzie Montana
I'd be disapponted if we didnt resign Blum. I didn't really look at the whole list but I'd love to have Tony G (**not likely since he wants to play every dayand there is no space except on the bench) back and if we could somehow dispose of Marte and get B.J Ryan, man would we but that much better! Milkman delivers
How about Mike Myers? He's much more realistic and he'd be the situational lefty with Cotts being the lefty that can go an inning or two.

Not a bad idea at all, in fact I actually love that idea, he'd be the perfect guy for oz's managerial style. Trade Viz and Damaso, the Duke in the pen, add myers, brandon to the rotation and there ya go.

Punch and Judy Garland
I like myers but Ryan is the guy to me. I would be ecsatic if we got Wagner but Ryan is great too because he can be either a set-up guy or a closer, he has a power arm, and he can pitch against good offenses in a tough league as he has proven. Hermanson, Jenks, Ryan the new Nasty Boys?

Hermanson, Jenks, Ryan the new Nasty Boys? Ryans going to cost you and from what I heard it sounds like he wants to stay on the east coast. Myers should be pretty cheapt and is really the perfect lefty for oz to do his situational matchup junk. I'd rather use the money we have on offense as our bullpen will already be damn good next season.

Punch and Judy Garland
Ryan will cost but he is willing to not be a closer because he is dying to be on a contender. That's why you have heard Boston and NY. Not sure if he'd expand beyond that but maybe we can prove that we are a winner this month.... Reddy
so as far as improving offense... what do you do? we need basically just a DH... and MAYBE a 3B/SS (Furcal would be amazing) but aside from a DH theres nothing we really glaringly NEED is there? Uribe, Rowand, and to some extent Crede all have the ability to be better with the bat than they were this year...if they could just figure out a way to shorten the prolonged slumps that our guys keep falling into. But yeah...a DH, or someone to replace one of our current guys like Konerko, Dye, or Podsednik so that they could move to DH, would be a major upgrade. I also still am holding out hope that #35 might be able to come back strong and healthy next year, even though it may be a slim hope. qwerty
I am glad so many of you are willing to throw 8-10 million a year at furcal considering another lead-off type hitter is not one of our needs at this point.
SSH2005
I am glad so many of you are willing to throw 8-10 million a year at furcal considering another lead-off type hitter is not one of our needs at this point. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I don't understand this at all. Uribe is cheap, great defensively, and could be a very productive #9 hitter with his new kick stance and patience at the plate. I think he is only going to get better. He may never repeat his great 2004 season but it's not impossible. He's a steal when you consider the contracts of Orlando Cabrera and Edgar Renteria. I have read a few articles discussing how the beginning of Uribe's offensive career looks much like Miguel Tejada's. We need offensive production at 3rd base way more than we need it at SS. If Konerko signs elsewhere in the offseason, the following lineup wouldn't be bad in my opinion. Scott Podsednik Tadahito Iguchi Lyle Overbay (Trade Crede and prospects for him) Frank Thomas (Pick up $3.5 million buyout and sign to a cheap, incentive-based 2-year contract) Jermaine Dye Bill Mueller (Sign to a 2-year contract) Aaron Rowand A.J. Pierzynski (Sign to a 3-year extension) Juan Uribe Brian Anderson would be our fourth outfielder. If Frank gets injured again, DH Dye and start Anderson in right field. This lineup would greatly improve our team OBP. I think this lineup with our pitching staff could win the division again next season. I don't see it happening though because Ozzie has said that he wants to make the lineup faster. Edited October 11, 2005 by SSH2005
